If you are interested in representing BHS on the Measure A (BSEP)
P&O Committee, please contact the Principal or the BSEP Committee Chair,
Allen King at [mailto:allenk at mindspring.com]

Reps will be selected at the BSEP meeting on October 4, 4:30 p.m. in the
D-bldg. conference room.

BACKGROUND: Since 1986, Berkeley schools have had the good fortune to
receive local property tax funding, most recently on the ballot as Measure A
of 2006, the Berkeley Public Schools Educational Excellence Act of
2006, approved by nearly 80% of Berkeley voters.

In the 2010-11 school year, the BSEP/Measure A tax revenues will total over
$22 million, one fifth of the district’s entire budget.  These
dollars support a wide range of programs and services for our students,
from Smaller Class Sizes to Counseling, from Libraries to Music and Arts,
from Technology to Parent Outreach.
The BSEP Planning & Oversight Committee, made up of parent representatives
from each school, meets regularly to:
*Develop, with district staff, budget recommendations for each element of
the BSEP Measure;
*Provide communication among the school sites;
*Review District compliance with the terms of the Measure.

The Planning & Oversight Committee needs four Representatives (plus
two alternates) from Berkeley High who will:
*Take a district-wide perspective;
*Provide vital public oversight of the Measure;
*Represent Berkeley High School in discussions of district-wide issues

P&O Committee meetings are normally held on the 2nd and/or 4th Tuesdays of
the month (monthly in the Fall, twice a month January-May), 7:00-9:30 p.m.
