SAT WORD OF THE DAY: Remiss~ negligent in attending to a task; lax in the

FOR ALL STUDENTS
1. Like Science? Want to learn about biotechnology? Sign up for the Biotech
Academy. Applications available in G305. Program is open to students who
will be Juniors in the fall. Paid summer internships are part of the
program. See Ms. Hansen for more information.
2. The Stanford Undergraduate Pre-Vet Club is hosting Pre-Vet Expo II, on
Saturday May 22, 2010 at the William R. Hewlett Teaching Center on the
Stanford Campus. This Expo is a day-long symposium geared towards college
and high school students interested in learning about the diverse career
opportunities in the field of Veterinary medicine. The symposium is free,
but requires pre-registration. For more information go to

3. Exploring College Options - Student/Parent Information Session presented
by Admission representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn and

4. Are you still looking for a summer learning experience? Go to

*5. Are you looking for a way to volunteer this summer? Join Community
Reading Buddies! Read with pre-school and elementary school children to
help improve their English language skills and become a positive mentor!

SENIORS
1. SENIORITIS - It's the last quarter of the senior year. Don't let your
grades drop. Don't think this semester doesn't count! All four year colleges
will require a copy of your official transcript after you graduate. If your
grades drop, they may rescind your admission.
SCHOLARSHIPS
1. 2010 CANERS Foundation Scholarship Open to high school seniors who are
entering college in a horticulture-related field in the fall. Applications
must be postmarked no later than June 15, 2010. Applications available in
the College Center.
2. Automotive Hall of Fame Scholarship For seniors who have a sincere
interest in an automotive career, have been accepted at an accredited
college, university or trade school within the United States and have a 3.0
GPA or higher. Applications must be received by June 1, 2010. Applications
available in the College and Career Center.
3. BigSun Scholarship 2010 - Open to all senior athletes regardless of the

Application deadline is June 24, 2010.
*4. East Bay Business Leaders Scholarship $1000 scholarship open to
graduating high school senior who is pursuing higher education and is
interested in becoming an entrepreneur. Deadline to submit application and
essay is May 21, 2010. Applications are available in College and Career
Center or online at http://eastbaybusinessleaders.com/node/3
*5. LAHF Dise/Gardere/Smith Scholarship- Open to seniors with a cumulative
GPA of 2.5 or higher, come from disadvantaged backgrounds, have shown
commitment to aiding their community and intend to return to their community
after college to assist the less fortunate. Applications are available in
the College Career Center and must be postmarked by June 15, 2010.

FOR JUNIORS
1. College advising appointments available. Sign up in the College Center,
D221. Please come in and make an appointment to see your College Advisor.
2. College-bound athletes can now access the 2009-19 Guides on the NCAA
Eligibility Center website, www.ncaaclearinghouse.net to find important
information on how to become eligible. On the website go to "General
Information" then click on "Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete."
The Eligibility Center's registration fee is $60. Students from low-income
families should see Ms. Price or Ms. Sandberg for a fee waiver.
3. CollegeWeekLive is an online virtual college fair, with hundreds of
colleges and universities from around the world participating. Besides
virtual college fairs and open houses, attendees can watch admissions
experts speak on topics such as how to prepare for the SAT, the application
essay, and how to pay for college. Attendees can also have questions
answered via live chat with admissions experts and college students.
CollegeWeekLive is free, and can be accessed at www.collegeweeklive.com.
4. Harvard University Announcement: Harvard offers free tuition to admitted
undergraduate students with a family income of less than $60,000. To find
out more about Harvard offering free tuition for families making less than
$60,000 a year, visit Harvard's financial aid website at:
http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu or call the school's Financial Aid office at
(617) 495-1581.
5. SAT TEST: Register for the SAT at www.CollegeBoard.com. Students will
also be able to find test dates, and national test center locations at this
site as well as helpful SAT prep information.
6. ACT TEST: Register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org. Students will also
be able to find test dates, and national test centers locations at this site
as well as helpful ACT prep information.
