ADMINISTRATION

*1. All students interested in AP/IB Chemistry should attend an informational meeting at lunch on Monday, March 1st or Tuesday, March 2nd in G215.  

2. Mathworks started February 23rd from 4-5 pm. at Willard Middle School. Contact Willardmathworks at gmail.com. Come join us and receive tutoring, community service or internship credit.

3. Celebrate African American History month! Join the month-long African American Read in by checking out one of the books on display in the library and get one of the special bookmarks. We have fiction, biographies and nonfiction for everyone's taste.

CLUBS

*1. For the very first time, the BHS Chorus Club, with the assistance of the Berkeley High School Development Group, is offering a prize of $250 to the best original song written by a student. Just one week left to enter! Entries are due Monday, March 1 in Mr. Dailey's office. The winner gets a prize and a public performance this spring (at the June 1 concert of the BHS Chorus). Entries can be in the form of written music  or CD/other computer music file or DVD/other video format. Send entries to: BHS Songwriting Competition, c/o Mr Scott Dailey, Room A206H, Berkeley High School. Entry forms available in A206H. *2. The Berkeley High Judo club will teach a practical self-defense and a sport that is fun. Bring your friends so you can learn how to throw, pin and do other things. The Wrestling room on March 2nd from 4-5 pm.

SPORTS

*1. After a once-in-a-lifetime, two-day battle, Boys Varsity beat Richmond during the PK shootout after two overtime periods. The game started on Saturday and finished on Monday - Jackets Victorious! Fans ecstatic! So it's on to the semi-final of the NCS tournament for the Team that Cannot Be Stopped. This Wednesday night at DeLa Salle High in Concord at 7 pm.

*2. Congratulations to the Berkeley High Wrestling Team for an outstanding showing at the Bay Shore Athletic League Championships last Thursday. The League Tournament was hosted by Berkeley High and the home team finished in 3rd Place. Junior Ben Cerami won the 215 pound League Title and taking silver medals were Seniors Miya Sommers at 112 pounds and Jasper Werby at 135 pounds and Junior Michael Joyce at 171 pounds. Placing 3rd were Seniors Aida Marin at 145 pounds and Malcolm Moody at 160 pounds, Junior Patrick Riordan at 152 pounds, Sophomore Dominic Francisco at 119 pounds, and Freshman Kamilo Sepulveda at 103 pounds. Great job and good luck at the NCS Championships this Friday.

EVENTS

*1. AHHH YEAH! MORP is coming on March 12th! Wanna break it down and get funky with classmates on a hot Friday night? Do it! But you must have your student ID to buy a ticket. Go to the counseling office to get a new one-$10. No printouts, I repeat, no printouts!! Yeah!! MORP - March 12th. Tickets go on sale today and will be $10 each. Get your tickets in the Athletic Office today!

*2. Hey, come support the junior class on Thursday and eat at Juan's Place in Berkeley. Great food, and great cause! Support the Junior class by eating this Thursday to raise money for the Junior class Prom. Bring your receipts to D148 or see Crystal Scherr. Juan's is located on the corner of 9th and Carleton Streets in West Berkeley.

JOBS/INTERNSHIPS

1. The application period for YouthWorks, the City of Berkeley's Youth Employment Program, began February 22, 2010 @ 8:00 a.m. Qualified Berkeley residents ages 14-25 can apply for a variety of jobs, including childcare, recreation & clerical positions within city departments and community organizations. The pay is $8.00/hr, and youth may work up to 6 hours/day (30 hrs/week) for a period of up to 6 weeks. The tentative start date is July 11, 2010, and interested youth are required to pick up an application in person at 1947 Center Street, Basement. The completed application, with Parental Authorization and all supplemental forms, must be returned by March 31st, including Photo ID, original Social Security Card, Proof of Residence and a typed or word-processed resume. 2. Like Science? Want to learn about biotechnology? Sign up for the Biotech Academy. Applications available in G305. Program is open to students who will be Juniors in the fall. Paid summer internships are part of the program. See Ms Hansen for more information.

OTHER

1. Are you in Y and G or in Y scholars? Are you a teenager that needs something to do after school? If you answered yes to any of these questions the YMCA Teen Center needs your support! The Teen Center, which is being built on Center and MLK, right across from BHS, has been nominated for a $250,000 Pepsi Challenge Grant. To win, we need everyone to vote and let Pepsi know that the teen center is a refreshing idea. We are at #12 now, so please help us win by voting every day until February 28th.
