ADMINISTRATION

1. Willard Mathworks starts Tuesday, February 23rd from 4-5 pm at Willard
Middle School. Contact Willardmathworks at gmail.com 

2. Celebrate African American History month! Join the month-long African
American Read-in by checking out one of the books on display in the library
and get one of the special bookmarks. We have fiction, biographies and
non-fiction for everyone's taste.

3. Reminder: Spring PE waivers must be turned into the counseling office by
February 19th.

CLUBS

1. Club REACH is having a coin drive fundraiser to raise money to help end
human trafficking. Bring money to your 2nd period class starting February
9th - February 26th and whichever class raises the most money earns a pizza
party in their class. Do your part to free the 27 million slaves that exist
around the world.

2. For the very first time, the BHS Chorus Club, with the assistance of the
Berkeley High School Development Group, is offering a prize of $250 to the
best original song written by a student. Entries must be submitted by 5pm
Feb 28 2009. The winning song will be performed as part of the June 1
concert of the BHS Chorus. Entries can be in the form of written music OR
CD/other computer music file OR DVD/other video format.  Send entries to:
BHS Songwriting Competition, c/o Mr. Scott Dailey, Room A206H, Berkeley High
School. Entry forms available in A206H.  Questions: contact Fiona Hammer

3. Calling all teen writers and artists!! Do you want your work to be
published in an Anthology of writing and Art!??  Then send it to
teenswrite2010 at gmail.com by March 15th! Join the facebook group to learn
more!  Get published and boost your college resume!

*4.  Going to lunch on Shattuck? Need an oil change? Did I ask already; are
you going to lunch on Shattuck?  Well it's time for you to start saving
moolah by getting a community discount card.  Deals at Dominos, Subway,
Round Table, Yogurt harmony, Hawaiian BBQ, Tapioca Express and more.  $10
for the cards  and hundreds of savings over the year.  Go to the leadership
office for info.

*5. Attention acoustic roots music fans! Do you play guitar, violin/ fiddle,
mandolin, stand-up bass, or banjo? Do you already play a stringed instrument
and want to switch to one of these? Come to the Berkeley High String Band
club to play traditional American music. If enough students are interested,
group lessons for these instruments will be provided by the Freight &
Salvage. The first meeting is Wed. Feb. 24 in C-128 from 3:45 to 4:45,
instruments optional.

SPORTS

1. Girls Lacrosse is looking for 5-10 more players to join the JV team. No
experience required. It's lots of fun and a great way to stay in shape.
Practices are 6:30 - 8am at the BHS turf this week.

3. Hey! Hey! Hey! The mighty Jackets play their final game of the season
Friday Night against arch rival El Cerrito. Come and pack the stands and
show your support for our basketball team in your red and gold.  Game time
is 7:00 pm.  See you there!

*4. Jacket Pride!  The boys varsity soccer team won the first round of the
NCS Soccer Tournament with a score of BHS 2, College Park 0. Cheer on the
team as they enter the quarter finals versus Richmond High on Saturday,
February 20 at 7 pm at the BHS turf.
NCS Admission: Ticket window opens at 5:30 PM
General Admission: $9
Special Admission: Students $6 with ID card
Children under 4 free
 
SENIORS

1. Senior yearbook pages are for sale until Feb.20. Come to H102b 7th
period. $180 for 1 page, $350 for 2 pages.

2. Senior poll winners: come take your pictures in H102b this week. You can
still buy your yearbooks at myyear.com.  We have almost sold out!

3. Senior hoodies are in!! Represent your senior class, buy a senior hoodie
$35 until Monday, Feb. 22, then it goes up to $40. These hoodies go!!

4. Financial Aid Workshops will be in the College Career at 3:30 pm.,
Tuesdays.

EVENTS/PERFORMANCES

1. Come join the fun every Wednesday night at Berkeley Youth Alternatives-
teen night, 6-8 pm. Activities include: 3 on 3 basketball tournaments
(indoor); shooting pool and x-box tournaments. Contact (510) 849-1406.

*2. The Teen Center is competing for a Pepsi Refresh grant of $250,000 to
help build a new facility right across the street from Berkeley High School.
We are at #12 now, so please help us win by voting every day until February
28th.  The website is www.refresheverything.com/ymcateencenter.  Thank you
for your votes!

*3. AHHH YEAH!  MORP is coming on March 12th!  Wanna break it down and get
funky with classmates on a hot Friday night!  Do it!  But you must have your
student ID to buy a ticket.  Go to the counseling office to get a new
one-$10.  No printouts, I repeat, no printouts!!  Yeah!! MORP- March 12th.

JOBS/INTERNSHIPS

1. The US Census Bureau is hiring for part-time jobs. You must be 18 to
apply. Good pay, flexible evening and weekend hours. Call 1-866-861-2010.

2. Like Science?  Want to learn about biotechnology?  Sign up for the
Biotech Academy.  Applications available in G305.  Program is open to
students who will be juniors in the fall.  Paid summer internships are part
of the program. See Ms. Hansen for more information.

3.  The application period for YouthWorks, the City of Berkeley’s Youth
Employment Program, begins February 22, 2010 @ 8:00 a.m.  Qualified Berkeley
residents ages 14-25 can apply for a variety of jobs, including childcare,
recreation & clerical positions within city departments and community
organizations.  The pay is $8.00/hr, and youth may work up to 6 hours/day
(30 hrs/week) for a period of up to 6 weeks.  The tentative start date is
July 11, 2010, and interested youth are required to pick up an application
in person at 1947 Center Street, Basement.  The completed application, with
Parental Authorization and all supplemental forms, must be returned by March
31st, including Photo ID, original Social Security Card, Proof of Residence
and a typed or word-processed resume.  For further information, contact
