Dear BHS Community Members,

We write to THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generous donations to this year's
Holiday Meal.  It was a great success, but only because of your help.
Without your help we may have been able to provide 50-100 meals.  But with
your help we were able to:

*Provide over 700 meals including about 40 turkeys and hams, 70 pies, and
several tens of pounds of potato/yam dishes and salad.

*Allow guests to take home several cans of food.

*Create a pleasant, restaurant-like environment - "La B-High Cafe" with
tablecloths, balloons and other nice touches.

*Impressively fill almost every bit of floor space of Principal Slemp's
office with canned food!  

*Give over 1000 cans not used to prepare the meal to the Alameda County Food
Bank.  

*Bring very positive media attention to Berkeley High with spots on KGO and
NBC evening news and several area newspapers.  

This event shows the community's ability to support its less fortunate
members when resources are shared.  To continue the giving through the
holidays and into the future we encourage you to:

* Donate to the Alameda County Food Bank - their shelves have been empty on
some recent days.  Demand is up 41% from last year.

* Volunteer with your students at a service event to further instill in them
the value of helping others.  

* Financially or otherwise support local organizations that have missions
and good reputations for effectively helping those in need.
