Our staff wants all parents and students to be aware that there has been an
increase in thefts and robberies both on the BHS campus and in the wider
community. All cases that we know of have been investigated. Some were
resolved; some are still outstanding. Some items have been returned; others
never will be. If your child has seen a robbery or theft, please have them
talk to a vice principal or the staff at On Campus Intervention (OCI) in
H104. Follow-through is important. Most thefts are crimes of opportunity
but occasionally items are actually taken from their owners. We have been
working closely with the Berkeley Police Department on these issues.

In addition, we have been working proactively to help students protect their
belongings. We have distributed posters, made announcements, placed an ad
in the Jacket, and provided school staff members and teachers with tips to
pass on to their students. The school recommends that your child not bring
iPods, money or other expensive or irreplaceable items to school. Students
should not leave their belongings unattended.
