This Wednesday night, October 7th, the Berkeley High Schedule Design Team
will be hosting the final community forum on the possible schedule changes
that could be implemented next fall. The location of the meeting has been
changed from the Food Court to the BHS Library, and will start at 7:00 PM.

The Design Team consists of parents, students, staff, Principal Slemp and
Superintendent Huyett. By Wednesday they will have finished all their site
visits and should have a complete description and breakdown of the
advantages and disadvantages of each model as considered for application at
Berkeley High.

Wednesday night is the time to learn about all the models, ask questions,
and gain a complete understanding of the different possible changes to
Berkeley High's schedule. The models under consideration include a "4 by 4"
(four classes at a time over four quarters), a "5 by 3" (five classes at a
time in a trimester system) and several other models that can't be summed up
in a quick phrase. Also to be determined is how many days a week advisories
will be held, and for how many years students will have advisories while at
BHS.

There are some exciting possibilities being considered in our community's
efforts to better address the achievement gap, and every parent owes it to
themselves, and to all of our students, to come and understand what is being
considered. The Design Team needs your feedback. We look forward to seeing
you there!

Sincerely,

Tracy Matthews & Mark van Krieken
