1.Volunteer: I am back with the next big push for BHS volunteers: registration, which this year is even more important than ever as the five scheduled days are the only times counselors will be accepting requests for schedule changes. During registration, emergency, athletic (if needed) and health forms are collected, schedules distributed, lockers assigned, textbooks issued, organizers sold, and ID pictures taken. In order to have this event run smoothly we need a minimum of 15 volunteers who are willing to take a morning shift (8:15 to noon) and 15 for the afternoon (12:45 to 3:45 p.m.) on each day. That is 30 people minimum per day. I will have parking passes for on campus parking.  If you  can help, please let me know which day and shift (morning or afternoon) you are available, by emailing jhuseby at pacbell.net. Registration Days: Monday, August 24, FreshmenTuesday, August, 25, SophomoresWednesday, August 26,  JuniorsThursday, August 27,
SeniorsFriday, August 28, Makeup Day2. Parents are not required to attend registration/orientation with their student. In fact, most students are quite comfortable working their way through the lines on their own. However, if you do attend, we will have chairs set up in the gym for parents. If you are there as a volunteer, your student will be able to ask you questions or seek help if needed.  3. Schedule changes.  As noted above, this year, due to the loss of several counselors, requests for changes will only be accepted during the week of August 24 through 28. Schedule changes will be made only in the case of mistakes made by the school.  In other words, schedules will not be changed just because a student has changed their mind since they filed their course requests in the spring.  Counselors will be available to talk to students during registration. Counselors will not be available to talk to students the first few weeks of school. After that,
they will be available by appointment only.
4. What to do if your child cannot attend registration. If your child cannot register as scheduled, you may send a proxy to pick up his/her schedule.  The proxy should either be the parent or come with a written note from the parent and a contact phone number.  The student, or someone authorized to make changes, should be available by phone when the proxy picks up the schedule.  If there is a mistake, the counselor will need to talk with the student in order to resolve the issue.  The proxy can turn in forms and purchase a school organizer, but will not be able to have a picture ID taken, which is a necessary step in getting a locker and checking out textbooks. Students who are not present for registration will have to complete these tasks on Monday, August 31 or Wednesday,
Sept. 2nd. Please note, Monday is the teachers' picture day, and they will have priority in line. Expect long lines on Wednesday, Sept. 2.  5. Please sign up to help by e-mailing me as soon as possible! Thank you, Janet Huseby
