STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
April 17, 2009           

ADMINISTRATION

1.  Free tutoring available for all levels of Latin, Tuesday and Thursday in C105.

2.  The Honors testing dates for placement into Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Math Analysis for next year are: Today, April 16 (3:30-5:30), Friday, April 17 (3:30-5:30) and Monday, April 20 (3:30-5:30).  Contact Amy Burke at amy_burke at berkeley.k12.ca.us.

3.  STAR Testing begins next week -- Tuesday, April 21st – Friday, April 24th.  Each day the schedule will be posted.  Please make sure you read the dates and times correctly.

FOR ALL STUDENTS

1.  ST. MARY'S COLLEGE FAIR – Saturday, April 25, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm.  Come to the St. Mary's College Fair to get information from over 150 college representatives from around the country.  Workshops on admissions and financial aid in English and Spanish are also available.  Free shuttles are available every 15 minutes beginning at 12:30 pm from the Orinda BART station. 2.  Project WHAT – Part/time jobs for teenagers and young adults, ages 15-24, who have had a parent in prison or jail, to increase awareness of what it's like to have had a parent in prison or jail and to improve services for youth with incarcerated parents.  The job entails working with a writing instructor to write a true story based on your personal experience, speak publicly at conferences about your experience, and facilitate trainings for adults and youth.  $8/hour for summer training + $100 bonus at the end of the summer.  $10-$12/hour for weekly meetings during the school year, plus fees for presenting at conferences or training. April 23.

3.  High School Musical 2 - On Stage seeks Dancers and Singers!! Ages 14 and Up.  Auditions: Sat. April 18 and Sat. April 25. Time: 1 - 5 p.m. Location: St. Teresa's Church, 4850 Clarewood Drive, Oakland CA.  Please prepare a one minute song, a two minute monologue and be dressed to dance!  By Appointment Only!  Call Today: 510-969-8375. Rehearsals will start in late April, performances will be two weekends in June at the Del Valle Theatre in Walnut Creek. Rehearsals will be in Oakland.

4.  The Museum of Children's Art in Oakland is seeking high school age volunteers for the summer arts day camp apprenctice program. Volunteers should be interested in working with young children (6-10 yrs) and art. During camp, volunteers will assist the art instructors and supervise campers during recess and field trips.  Camp runs June 15-Aug 21. Volunteers work 1/2 day shifts for a minimum of two weeks of their choice during the summer. *Exploring College Options – Student/Parent Information Sessions on Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn and Stanford.  Tuesday, April 28, 7:30 pm, Oakland Asian Cultural Center, 388 – 9th Street, Oakland.  RSVP at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org 

FOR JUNIORS

1.  SAT/ACT TEST DATES -- May 5 is the regular registration deadline for the June 6 SAT and SAT subject tests. May 8 is the regular registration deadline for the June 13 ACT.  These are the last tests offered before September 2009.  Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.

2.  Nordstrom's Scholarship – open to Juniors who have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.7;  have made a substantial contribution to the community; are involved in school activities; require financial assistance to attend college and will be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the U.S.  Deadline:  June 1.  Award:  $10,000 scholarship paid over four years at $2,500 per year.  Applications available in D221.

FOR SENIORS

1.  FRESNO STATE – Are you planning on attending Fresno State or were admitted and have questions about the school? Come to a meeting on Thursday, April 23 at 10:35 in the College/Career Center to speak with an admissions representative from the school.  Sign up in advance in D221 to attend.

2.  NEED HELP UNDERSTANDING AND/OR COMPARING YOUR FINANCIAL AID AWARD LETTERS? Come to a workshop to discuss these issues.  Bring your award letters. Sign up in D221 to attend. Wednesday, April 15, 3:30 pm in Conference Room A.  Today, April 16, 7:30 am in the College/Career Center.

EVENTS

1.  Senior prom tickets are $65.  Buy your tickets in D173.  Guest passes are available in D148.  Prom is May 9, 2009.

2.  MORP has been postponed to April 24, 2009.

*3.    Tryouts for "The Taste of Friendship" written by Marnee Causey will take place on Monday, April 20th from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Afro-Haitian room.  Please come out and see what this performance is all about.
