[BHS etree] JAZZ: BHS Jazz Combo Places 1st at National Competition

The Berkeley High School ensemble and combo stood tall yesterday at the Monterey Next Generation Festival, April 4th, 2009. It has been an honor once again for BHS Jazz to be selected to participate in the festival. Participants came as far away as Japan, Texas and Oregon.

Along with being selected to compete, the combo placed first place in the national competition yesterday! Please congratulate the musicians for their rousing performance.

Samora Pinderhughes - piano
Nick Murphy - Bass
Forrest Mitchell - drums
Michael Stock Matthews - trumpet
Elena Pinderhughes - flute
Chase Jackson - vibes

Along with the recognition of securing first place the combo will receive an award of $500.00. The combo have been invited to perform at the upcoming Monterey Jazz Festival Sept. 18th-20th, 2009:

Along with winning first place Samora Pinderhughes and Forrest Mitchell each received an individual soloist award. Only three soloist awards were given.
