COORDINATOR sought for the  HERB SINGER GREEN SCHOLARS
Program/Position Overview

    The Herb Singer Green Scholars program is specifically designed to provide BHS students with an opportunity to experience green career options with local businesses. Students receive career skills training, interviewing experience, relevant work experience, and a certificate upon completion. The coordinator works relatively independently and will report to Ellen Singer-Vine, founder of the organization.

     Responsibilities

    ·Establish and maintain working relationships with local "green" businesses who are interested in taking on a paid student intern for the summer

    · Establish and maintain working relationship with Youthworks, with the purpose of facilitating the payment and workers compensation requirement associated with the student internships for the summer

    · Plan, maintain, and communicate (to members of the HSGS committee and related participants) detailed timeline of necessary duties, workshops, and associated projects and goals

    ·  Recruit students to participate in the HSGS program

    ·  Develop "curriculum" for job skills workshops

    ·  Deliver presentations in job skills workshops

    ·  Mentor students through the workshops, pre-employment process, and internship placements (throughout the summer)

    ·  Attend regular meetings to include the HSGS committee in the planning and implementation of the HSGS project

    ·  Maintain regular communication with participating businesses to ensure the program's effectiveness

    ·  Compile a Final Report at the end of the summer that highlights the students & businesses who participated and what was accomplished (copy to be sent to all businesses with a thank you card)

    ·  Other duties as needed

     Skills & Abilities

    ·  Enough experience in the professional setting to be able to develop career skills curriculum

    ·  Ability to effectively mentor students

    ·  Strong communication skills

    ·  Standard computer software including word processing and tables

     Working Environment

    ·  Much of the work can be done at home.

    ·  Workshops are conducted on BHS campus.

    ·  Workload maximum 5 hours per week during the school year; 2-3 hours per week during the summer

    ·  Will be expected to use own phone, computer, and car for tasks
     
    Compensation $20 per hour
