ADMINISTRATION
1. Wednesday, April 15th is Late Start Day for the month of April. Please remind all students and staff.
2. Seniors -- Achievers will be at BHS today, Friday, April 3 at lunchtime. Please be in the courtyard if you need to order caps, gowns, or rings. If you haven't ordered, please don't forget.
CLUBS
*AP Language and Composition information meeting lunch in C219 with Mr. Bye. Come get your summer reader!! You must sign in to receive your reader.
SPORTS
*Judo International at BHS will be starting on Thursday, April 16 at 3:45 pm in the Wrestling Room. Come learn the world's most popular martial art from a Brazilian and an American national champion. Learn Portuguese and how to write your name in Japanese, while you learn how throw someone twice
your size. Please come in sweats or shorts or just show up to watch.
FOR ALL STUDENTS
1. Project WHAT – Part/time jobs for teenagers and young adults, ages 15-24, who have had a parent in prison or jail, to increase awareness of what it's like to have had a parent in prison or jail and to improve services for youth with incarcerated parents. The job entails working with a writing instructor to write a true story based on your personal experience, speak publicly at conferences about your experience, and facilitate trainings for adults and youth. $8/hour for summer training + $100 bonus at the end of the summer. $10-$12/hour for weekly meetings during the school year, plus fees for presenting at conferences or training. April 23.
2. Spring Break Jobs! -- If you are 16 years or older, love working with children, and want to work during your spring break, we want to hear from you! Sarah's Science is recruiting counselors ages 16 and up to work at our wonderful Sarah's Science Spring Break Camp from April 6th to 10th, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The camps will be at Black Pine Circle Elementary School in Berkeley and Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland. Counselors can work one or more days. Working partial days might be possible. Starting pay is $8 per hour. For more information, please contact us asap at 510-581-3739 and ask for Minane or Kathy.
FOR JUNIORS
1. Students Rising Above – Open to juniors from a low income family who have overcome obstacles that are not of their own making, have a GPA of 3.0 or above, live in the Bay Area and are planning on attending a four year college. The scholarship covers all college expenses not covered by other scholarships or financial aid. In addition, students are given assistance in applying to college, help with dental and healthcare appointments, summer internships, and a mentor. Applications are available in D221 and at http://studentsrisingabove.org/student scholarships . Deadline: April 4.
2. Nordstrom's Scholarship – open to Juniors who have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.7; have made a substantial contribution to the community; are involved in school activities; require financial assistance to attend college and will be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the U.S. Deadline: June 1. Award: $10,000 scholarship paid over four years at $2,500 per year. Applications available in D221.
FOR SENIORS
*1. NEED HELP UNDERSTANDING AND/OR COMPARING YOUR FINANCIAL AID AWARD LETTERS? Come to a workshop to discuss these issues. Bring your award letters. Sign up in D221 to attend. Wednesday, April 15, 3:30 pm in Conference Room A. Thursday, April 16, 7:30 am in the College/Career Center.
2. San Francisco City College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program is now accepting applications for fall 2009. Degrees in the hospitality industry, culinary arts, food service management and hotel management are available. The program is certified by the American Culinary Federation.
