Student Court is Recruiting!
The Student Court program provides an alternative to suspension.
Volunteer advocates are responsible for arguing on behalf of offenders
and victims.
The consequences are decided by a jury of high school students, not
adults. Consequences can include jury duty, community service,
tutoring, counseling, essays, and optional restitution.
The program trains a group student lawyers, or advocates, starting in
Fall every year. Advocates are taught by UC Berkeley law students in a
class that takes place twice a week during 7th period. This program is
ideal for those that would like to help their fellow students and are
interested in law and justice. It's also a great addition to college
applications.
Students can also participate as jurors. Trials are held weekly after
school. The dates and times are posted in OCI (H104). We sign off on
community service hours!
Students interested in participating in the program or serving on a
jury should speak to David Luu, the Program Coordinator, in H104. He
can be reached by email at: david_luu at berkeley.k12.ca.us
