STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
March 4, 2009

ADMINISTRATION

*1. Today is Late start Wednesday!  Please remember school starts at
10:00 am for students.

*2. [etree note: we received the message below the evening of March 3,
so the Tuesday meeting has passed, but please pay attention to the
note about the meeting today, March 4 and tomorrow, March 5]
 All students interested in taking AP Science classes next year should
plan to attend an informational meeting Tuesday, March 3 during lunch.
If you miss the Tuesday meeting, there will be a meeting on Thursday
again (except AP Bio which will be on Wed.)  The rooms are as follows:
G209   AP Environmental Science
G215   AP Chemistry
G306   AP Biology
G217   AP Physics
Come by, let the teacher know you are interested, and pick up an
informational packet.

3.  Important!  If you have a crate for the Holiday meal in your
classroom please return it to the leadership office (D148) or let
Edith Jordan know. We need all crates returned for the STAR test.
Thank you for your support.

*4. Come tutor at Willard Middle School for Mathworks today at 3:30
pm.

*5. Interested in taking AP Art History next year?  If so, please come
to an informational meeting at lunch on Thursday, March 5th in G108B.
You'll get questions answered by previous students.  If you can't
attend, please come by G108B to pick up informational materials
anytime after Thursday.

*5. Sharpen those Study Skills.  Come to the Study Skills workshop on
Wednesday, March 4th at 7pm in the Library.

*6. Sign-ups for the 2009 AP Exams will take place during the next two
weeks, from Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 13 during lunch
(11:30 to 12:05) and after school (3:30 to 4 p.m.) at the Donahue Gym
ticket window. The tests will be in May (see attached schedule).
Students will be receiving registration forms and information about
fees and fee waivers from their AP teachers. Please encourage your
students to sign up early.


CLUBS

1.  Cheerleaders:  Those of you who are still interested in becoming a
Yellowjacket cheerleader for 2009-2010 -- You can pick up an
application from the Athletic Office.  New tryout dates are March
16,17 and 18th.  For more information contact Nichelle at
510-776-8194.

*2. A reminder: the BHS Chorus invites students and interested adults
to come to a meeting after Thursday's regular rehearsal to discuss
plans for upcoming performances, and for next year. We'll be needing
volunteers and suggestions.  Contact Fiona Hamer at
thefionahamer at hotmail.com , 510-486-8192 if you have any questions
about the meeting.

*3. Have you ever felt that reading books alone is boring?  Guess
what? BHS has the great Earphone English  Club where you can listen to
books while you read.  So don't be shy and come by C124 today at
lunch.

*4. Interested in talking about teen social and discussion group teen
issues?  Come to H110 at lunch.  Snacks provided.

*5. Come to the Cooking Club on Wednesday at 3:30 pm in H106.  Help us
celebrate Black History Month with a soul food menu.


SPORTS

*1. The Mountain Bike Team was in action in Monterey on Sunday.  The
team fought through mud to post a strong first showing for the season.
Leading the Jackets was Nina Goldman with a 5th place finish in the JV
Girls race.  The team is back at it in two weeks at the Granite Bay
Invitational in Folsom.

*2. Congratulations to Juniors Miya Sommers and Aida Marin for placing
at the Girls' NCS Wrestling Championships last Saturday. Miya placed
3rd at 114 pounds with 3 wins and 1 loss in the tournament and
improving on a 4th place finish last season.  Miya ends the season
ranked as one of the top returners for next year with a record of 21
wins and only 4 losses.  Aida Marin wrestled two tough matches to
place 5th.  Good job girls!


SENIORS

San Francisco City College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management
Program is now accepting applications for Fall 2009. Degrees in the
hospitality industry, culinary arts, food service management and hotel
management are available.  The program is certified by the American
Culinary Federation.  For more information and an application, go to

JOBS

*Looking for a student to help with landscaping and light construction
at my home, Monday and Thursday afternoons.  Can be a guy or a girl,
but must be strong enough to carry 50-lb bags of concrete up our front
stairs, and able to dig and do other physical tasks.  Chance to learn
some construction skills. Pay $9.00 per hour. Hours can be flexible.

EVENT/PERFORMANCE

ITPs, Independent Theater Project continues Friday March 6 at 7:30 pm.
Three one-act plays directed by Berkeley High Seniors, completely
student run and independent. The shows are this Friday and Saturday.
You don't want to miss it!  Hillside Club -- 2286 Cedar St.  Tickets
are $5 for students and $12 for general.
