Hello Berkeley Schools
Community,
We have all worked very hard to make
our Berkeley schools a better place for everyone. Many of us have noted that
Berkeley does not
have a KING Parade, March or Celebration on Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday and we have
waited for the opportunity to do this.
We are "starting small" in our
organization of this intention with "A
WALK IN CELEBRATION OF
CHANGE" on Monday,
January 19th, the designated holiday for King's 1/15 birthday.
Being that it is the day before our Presidential Inauguration of Barack OBAMA, we wanted
this to be our first year of celebration of how far we have come and recognize
our commitment to CHANGE.
We are meeting at Jefferson Elementary
School with coffee, juice, muffins
and bagels at 9 a.m. on Monday 1/19 and will begin our WALK to King
Middle School at 10 a.m. We will walk on the
sidewalk observing all traffic lights and walking safely. We will then
have a program of stories and celebration in the King Auditorium, ending by
12 noon.
We hope you can rally your friends
and community to make banners and signs - or not - and walk with us and
celebrate as well as observe the HOPE and PROMISE and COMMITMENT we
have for the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., all of which are
well-exampled by our President Elect Barack OBAMA.
