ADMINISTRATION
1. Attention Students! BART Tickets for November have arrived. Please pick up your tickets by November 25th at lunchtime in room D224. All tickets not picked up by the 25th will be available for sale to other students.
*2. Makeup photo IDs today at lunch in the counseling center.
*3. The Yellowjackets (#8) host Deer Valley (#9) this Friday at 7:00 in Round 1 of the NCS Championship Tournament. This is the first NCS football game at BHS in many many years, so come on out and support the team. Barbeque club and rally will take place on the campus green at lunch on Friday. Presale tickets are available starting Wednesday. Tickets are $6 students/seniors and $9 adults. This is an NCS sponsored event and no passes are accepted.
CLUBS
*1. Earphone English -- at lunch in C124 today. Come by for a Thanksgiving treat, since next Wednesday is a holiday!
2. CALENDAR SALES -- The annual fundraising calendar sales for the CAS video program are starting. These are 2009 wall, page-a-day and engagement calendars that are selling for only $5. They make great gifts. Saturdays from noon until 4 pm on November 22, November 29, December 6 and December 20. 2310 Valley St. This is 3 blocks west of Sacramento St. off Channing Way. Rain or Shine!
SPORTS
Girls Lacrosse is starting conditioning. Come to the turf from 3:30 to 4:30 every Tuesday and Thursday to work out and get ready for the upcoming season. Bring workout clothes and a stick if you have one, all skill levels are welcome.
FOR ALL STUDENTS
1. College Fair -- Today, 3:00-7:00 pm, at Youth Uprising, 8711 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland. Includes representatives from many local four and two year colleges, historically black colleges and universities, programs in beauty/barber school, design industry, automotive tech and more as well as workshops on financial aid, test prep and college applications. 2. World Affairs Council is sponsoring the International Career Mentor Night on Thursday, November 20, 6:00-8:00 pm. This is an opportunity to speak with Bay Area professionals in international development, journalism, foreign service, education, law, business and global health. Space is limited. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications available in D221 and at http://www.itsyourworld.org.
3. Want to study abroad? Youth for Understanding and World Affairs Council awards annual scholarships to high school students (only) who want to study abroad for the summer, semester or year. Come to this information session to learn more about the 2009-2010 YFU study abroad programs and meet former Council scholarship winners. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 6:00 pm. 4. Violet Richardson Award of the Soroptimist Club -- Award of $1,000 to a young woman currently between the ages of 14 and 17 who has demonstrated initiative in both identifying a problem and trying to solve it and who has had significant and noteworthy accomplishments as a volunteer. Application available in D221. Received deadline: December 1.
FOR SENIORS
1. COLLEGE VISITS
Over 100 college representatives visit Berkeley High's College/Career Center every year. Seniors may attend up to 10 of those meetings, with the permission of the teacher whose class they are missing. Sign up in advance in the College/Career Center and pick up a permission slip. 2. SAT/ACT TEST DATES FOR SENIORS -- Today (note new date) is the late registration deadline for the December 6 SAT and SAT subject tests. November 20 is the late registration deadline for the December 13 ACT. THESE ARE THE LAST TESTS ACCEPTED BY ALL UC CAMPUSES AND MANY CAL STATE CAMPUSES. Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.
3. COMPLETE YOUR UC AND CAL STATE APPLICATIONS NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 30!
Due to the economic downturn, many Cal State campuses are closing applications on November 30th. Don't miss the chance to apply.
THE FOLLOWING CAL STATE CAMPUSES WILL CLOSE APPLICATIONS ON NOVEMBER 30:
CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO, CAL POLY POMONA, CHANNEL ISLANDS, CHICO, FULLERTON, HUMBOLDT, LONG BEACH, NORTHRIDGE, SAN MARCOS, SAN DIEGO STATE, SAN JOSE AND SONOMA STATE. Although San Francisco State will close applications on December 10, their priority deadline is November 30. Other Cal State campuses may close applications on November 30 or shortly thereafter as well, so consider this to be the final deadline.
Attend application workshops or pick up a handout with application instructions in the College/Career Center, or go to www.csumentor.edu to apply. Your college advisor will be happy to check your application before you submit it. Both the UC application (www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply) and the Cal State application (www.csumentor.edu) are available online.
4. COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOPS -- ALL HELD IN THE LIBRARY COMPUTER LAB.
You must sign up in advance in the College/Career Center to attend. 15 person maximum per workshop.
