STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
October 29, 2008

*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

1.  BART orders for November will be taken on October 28th and 29th in Room D224 at lunchtime only!  Cash only please.  Price is $16 for a $32 value ticket. Please no checks!

2.  BHS logo wearables are being sold every Friday after school, 3:15 - 3:45 from the Athletic Director's office right next to Donahue gym.  Come check out the T-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats, and more.  We accept cash or checks payable to Berkeley Athletic Fund.

3.  Yearbook Announcement: Senior baby pictures are due by October 31st with self-addressed envelopes in H102B 7th period.  Yearbooks are on sale in H102 or buy them on myyear.com.

*4.  Theatre Organ Concert this Sunday on campus in Berkeley Community Theatre at 2:30 pm.  NorCal Theatre Organ Society's SUNDAY "POPS" Concert with organist Jonas Nordwall on historical Wurlitzer pipe organ. Complimentary tickets for BHS faculty, employees, and students by presenting BHS Identification.  Free by providing name and address solely for the NorCal TOS concert and event mailing list.  Regular tickets on the day of concert -- $15.  More information call 415-861-7082. (No babies in arms.)

5.  Trick or treat.  Use this time wisely and hand in missing or make-up work because the quarter ends October 31st.

6.  Summer Study abroad with ECI!  In Spain, France, or Costa Rica you can take classes at leading language schools, earn 3 units of university credit, have fun and make new friends while traveling and experiencing another culture and language.  Informational evening meeting, November 6th in Room G210: France (7-8 pm), Spain and Costa Rica (8-9 pm).

7.  Youth Works After School Employment Program -- The application period for fall-winter semester employment ends Oct. 31st.  Apply in person at 1947 Center St. or if you have picked up an application already, the deadline to return the completed application is Oct. 31st.  The application must be brought in, along with photo ID, social security card, proof of residence, resume and proof of 2.0 GPA.  You can call 981-4970 for details.


CLUBS

*1.  There will be a Halloween bake sale at lunch on the senior steps, hosted by the French Club!

*2.  Hey!  Do you love to write?  Want to share your work but are too shy? Get over it!  Come to C324 at lunch today for the Writing Club!

3.  Earphone English -- Come to C124 at lunch today to get a head start on Halloween candy and to win a prize for a short book share.

*4.  Join us for a Halloween feast!  The Cooking Club is cooking up chili, cornbread, fruit salad and pumpkin pie this Thursday at 3:30 pm in H106. Everyone is welcome for fun, food, and friendship -- all for free.

*5.  Make your voice heard!  Help restore chorus as an art elective at Berkeley High!  Come to A201 at lunch on Thursday to discuss making a chorus club. All are welcome regardless of singing experience.  Your input is needed to shape chorus in Berkeley!  Email ianfarnkopf at pacbell.net if you have any questions, comments, or can't come to the meeting.

*6.  Are you fascinated with Asian culture?  Want to hang out and meet new people?  Come join us at lunch on Thursday in C335!  Everyone is welcome.

*7.  This Thursday, October 30th, Junior Class Leadership is hosting a fundraiser with Baja Fresh.  Go anytime between 11am - 9pm  with your friends and family for a meal at Baja.  And don't forget to bring a flyer to show you're from BHS at the time of purchase!  Junior class needs your support so they can make events like Jr. Prom possible.  Support Jr. Class, eat at Baja this Thursday all day.


SPORTS

The Athletic office is currently accepting completed sports packets for the winter sports season. You must be cleared by the Berkeley Athletic Department by Nov. 10th which is the first day of winter sports tryouts. Your completed sports packet must include a signed and stamped physical from a doctor. Sports packets can be picked up in the athletic office during lunch and immediately after school. Remember -- "no clearance, no tryout!"

EVENTS

*1.  Freshman dancers!  Where are you?  If you are dancing with the freshmen class of 2012 please come to D148 and see Ms. Jordan.

2.  As we are approaching Berkeley High's homecoming game for football we will need freshmen runners to be Count and Countess, sophomore runners for Duke and Dutchess, junior runners for Prince and Princess and some seniors to run for King and Queen.  If you interested come by D148 to begin campaigning for a crown. Winners will be announced at the varsity homecoming game (after voting earlier that day).  Run to claim your crown to add to your list of good memories.

3.  Were you a dancer in last year's shows?  If you want to buy a DVD of Dance Production, Choreographers or Dance Projects come see Ms. Carr at lunchtime this week in the A building.  DVD's are $5 each.
