*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

*1.  Study groups start this week.  AP Chemistry in G215: Tuesday, Thursday at lunch and Wednesday 3:30 – 5:30 pm.  AP Biology in G211: Monday and Tuesday 3:30 – 5:30 pm.  AP Calculus in AB H303: Monday and Wednesday 3:30 – 5:30 pm.  

*2.  Join the online conservation about Good books.  Go to the Library’s new Reading Blog, linked off the main BHS library page.  You can read about great books, and add your own reviews to the blog.  See Mr. Provence for details.

3.  Attention all Jazz Band Students:  Designs for the T-shirt contest are due today.  They will be collected in your Lab Band 1, Lab Band 2, or Ensemble class.  Email pcolusa at gmail.com for more information.

4.  Come sign up to donate blood on the Senior Steps today.  There will be a bake sale too.  Every donor will receive a free baseball cap and a snack.  If you're 16, pick up a permission form in D148.  Don't miss your chance to save lives!

5.  BART tickets for October are in.  Please pick up your tickets by October 24th at lunchtime only in room D224.  All tickets not picked up by the 24th will become available for sale to the students.  The Parent Center no longer holds tickets beyond the stated pickup date.

6.  Yearbook Announcement: Senior baby pictures are due by October 31st with self-addressed envelopes in H102B 7th period.  Yearbooks are on sale in H102 or buy them on myyear.com.

7.  Who says you have to be a doctor to save a life?  Donate blood in a safe environment -- in school -- on October 24th in the Jacket Gym.  Go to www.BeADonor.com, and put in the sponsor code: Berkeley High to schedule an appointment.  Free baseball caps to donors!

CLUBS

*1.  Do you want to fly?  Have you ever gone flying?  Then this is your chance!  The aviation club will be going flying every 3rd Saturday of the month.  You will get to fly a real airplane. The aviation club meets every Tuesday at lunch in D220.

*2.  If you know even a bit of Hebrew this club is for you!  Join us at the Hebrew Speakers club of Berkeley high.  Our first meeting will be in Ms. Morris’s classroom H203, on October 23rd, Thursday -- bring lunch!

*3.  Come to APIC this Thursday at lunch.  APIC meets every Thursday in room C335.

*4.    The African American studies department is looking for 3 original poets to participate in the State convention for the NAACP.  It will be held at the San Francisco Airport Marriott on October 24th, 2008. Auditions will be held today at 3:30 pm in room H214.  Be seen, be heard, make a difference!!!

SPORTS

1.  There will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in playing soccer on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 during lunch.  The meeting will be held on the bleachers by the football field.  All are invited to attend.

*2.  The Athletic office is currently accepting completed sports packets for the winter sports season. You must be cleared by the Berkeley Athletic Department by Nov. 10th which is the first day of winter sports tryouts. Your completed sports packet must include a signed and stamped physical from a doctor. Sports packets can be picked up in the athletic office during lunch and immediately after school. Remember -- "no clearance, no tryout!"

EVENTS

*1.  As we are approaching Berkeley High’s homecoming game for football we will need freshmen runners to be Count and Countess, sophomore runners for Dutch and Dutchess, junior runners for Prince and Princess and some seniors to run for King and Queen.  If you interested come by D148 to begin campaigning for a crown. Winners will be announced at the varsity homecoming game (after voting earlier that day).  Run to claim your crown to add to your list of good memories.

2.  Were you a dancer in last year's shows?  If you want to buy a DVD of Dance Production, Choreographers or Dance Projects come see Ms. Carr at lunchtime this week in the A building.  DVD's are $5 each.
