CAS is looking for MENTORS!
Want to make a difference in the life of a Berkeley High student?
Communication Arts, and Sciences (CAS) small school is looking for
adult mentors in the fields of media and/or social justice to commit
to a year-long MENTORING RELATIONSHIP with an 11th grade student in
our program.
Mentors will meet once-a-month with their mentees-between November
2007 and May or June 2009-for a total of 7 meetings. The meetings
will include 2 Mentor/Mentee Pizza Dinners and a half-to-full-day job
shadow. We need mentors who can help their mentee understand critical
aspects of a specific professional field (media/social justice).
Potential mentors will be interviewed and matched by interest and
expertise. If interested, please email HMinassian at berkeley.k12.ca.us
by Friday, October 31st.
Below is a brief description of our program:
CAS is a small school that emphasizes media literacy and communication
skills in a context of social justice. The CAS program is designed to
help students incorporate real-world experiences into their high
school education while they explore social justice, social change, and
social responsibility.
The objectives of CAS are to encourage intellectual and personal
growth through communications arts; to develop a sense of community
among students, teachers, and families; and to work for social
justice.
CAS students work with the same group of 60 students and a core group
of teachers in their grade level during their four years of high
school.
