Dear Berkeley High School Parents and Guardians:
Last year, the PTSA worked together with the BHS Development Group to
organize parent education events on issues of concern to many BHS
families. Last year we held parent education evening discussions
on how to talk to teens about sex and teenage anger management.
These two events were very well attended and we received a great deal
of positive feedback from parents who expressed hopes that
these events would continue.
Parent Education 2008-09
We are very excited to announce the first two parent education events
for the 2008-09 school year. Please save the dates. Make sure to
attend and bring other BHS parents and guardians with you!

Thursday, November 13, 7:00 to 9:00pm
Drugs, Alcohol and Teenagers
Sally Cohen has been facilitating teen substance abuse groups and
doing individual therapy with adolescents for over twenty years. She
has worked at high schools throughout the Bay Area and is currently
developing a substance abuse program at BHS where she leads substance
use/abuse therapy groups. She has supervised graduate students
attending JFK University as well as interns at Berkeley Mental
Health. Currently she is on the faculty at the Women's Therapy
Center. She is also in private practice in Berkeley where she works
with adolescents, couples, and adults. Ms. Cohen will be discussing
adolescent substance use and helping parents differentiate between
recreational use and dependence. She will also talk about what
parents can do to help their teen and present various treatment
options. There will be time at the end for questions and discussion.
ALL Berkeley High School parents and guardians are warmly invited to
attend. The PTSA parent education events are sponsored by the PTSA
and funded by the BHS Development Group.
If you know you plan to attend, please RSVP to Audrey at
