*New to the bulletin today
Administration
*1. Final days to take ID pictures are September 9th from 11:15 - 4:00
pm, September 25th from 11:15-4:00 pm.
Clubs
*1. Calling all Berkeley High vocalists! Shower singers or
experienced vocalists please help us bring down the house for Berkeley
high. 20-50 students are wanted who would like to perform 1-2 songs
with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir on October 4th at BHS A
brief and simple audition is required. If interested, please contact
Trelawny Rose at vocalfreedom at gmail.com
*2. Anyone interested in being a freelance writer for the Berkeley
High Jacket should show up on Monday, September 8th at lunch in C213.
Freelance writers will get class credit and the opportunity to publish
their work in the school newspaper, and no previous Jacket writing
experience is necessary. Anyone interested should attend.
*3. Do you want community service hours? Do you want to travel and
help needy children? Join Building With Books! We meet in C220 every
Tuesday at lunch. Come check us out!
*4. Join the French Club! Come to our meeting today, Friday, in C102.
There will be free food! Also, find out how you get to France with
us. Once again, the French club meets every Friday at lunch in C102.
Everyone is welcome to join.
5. Are you interested in being a peer health educator? 10th, 11th, and
12th graders can pick up applications in the health center (H105) for
PASSHEN (Peers Advocating Safety and Sexual Health Education Now).
Don't miss your chance to be an advocate for health at BHS!
Applications are due Wednesday, September 10th. Earn class credit and
get paid to educate your peers!
6. Best Buddies is back! Come to the info session on Tuesday,
September 9th, 2008!! You are not required to be in the club if you
come!! Candy will be provided!
Sports
*1. The Berkeley High School Ultimate Frisbee Team welcomes players of
all levels to come to tryouts on Sunday, September 7th at noon, at the
Derby field at Milvia and Carleton. Second practice is Thursday after
school, from 4pm to 6pm at the same location.
Senior / Junior Section
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
1. Looking for a BHS senior female student who would like to work with
a beginning freshman girl who needs help with all major subjects;
math, science, English. Job description is: Overseeing her homework
and helping her get more organized. Must be reliable, academic,
organized and have a good attitude. Beginning with a couple of hours a
week. Pay is $12:00 per hour. Meet at the Berkeley public library
after school. Time and day not decided as yet but most likely right
after school Monday/Wednesday. If interested please email

2. Homework Helper needed in math and language arts for 8th grade
girl. One hour 2-3 times per week. Will pay $12.00 per hour. Call

FOR SENIORS
REMINDER: If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
5th if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action or to any
school which requires a recommendation by November 1 and September
19th for Regular Decision. You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only to the UC's, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.
COLLEGE VISITS
Over 100 college representatives visit Berkeley High's College/Career
Center every year. Seniors may attend up to 10 of those meetings,
with the permission of the teacher whose class they are missing. Sign
up in advance in the College/Career Center and pick up a permission

SAT/ACT TEST DATES - Tuesday, September 9 is the regular registration
deadline for the October 4 SAT and SAT subject tests. Friday,
September 19 is the regular registration deadline for the October 25
ACT test. Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.
Events/Performances
Students interested in auditioning for the BHS Jazz Ensemble should
sign-up in the A bldg., Room A201. Last auditions for rhythm and
saxes will be held Friday, September 5th in room A201, during 7th
period: See Mr. Hamilton (A201)
