1. Every year Berkeley High loses thousands and thousands of dollars
due to lost and damaged textbooks. To give you an idea, our book
budget is $300,000 annually. Roughly a third is devoted to replace
textbooks: science books which cost up to $150, Math books which clock
in at $90, history books which can go for $100. We are talking big
bucks! This year in an effort to cut down on this awful waste the
administration is organizing an unprecedented book collection system
during final exams. But we wont be able to pull it off with out help.
We are asking for four volunteers a shift with four shifts a day for
three days Tuesday though Thursday, June 10, 11, and 12. The shifts
are 8:30 to 10, 10 to 11:30, 11:30 to 1 and 1 to 2:30. I know some
people have already replied to Tiffany Williams. If you could now let
me know what times work best for you so we can create a master
schedule that would be great. If you can help, please email me at
jhuseby at pacbell.net You are needed!
2. Even before the massive book collection we are having a Volunteer
Coffee on Thursday, June 5 from 8 to 9:30 in the morning in Conference
Room B (Admin Building) to celebrate and thank the most amazing
community any school could ask for. Every day I hear of new ways that
volunteers have helped and supported this community: Library
volunteers, webmasters, writing coaches, Front Desk Volunteers,
chaperons, team parents, runners, test proctors, college essay
readers, tour guides, committee members, fund raisers, mailers, etree
moderators, etc. etc. It is a drop in event and I hope you come!
