1. AP Roundup. Newsweek Magazine has just published its annual list of
the top 1,300 public high schools in the United States. The schools on
the list represent the top 5% of US schools. They were ranked
according to a ratio of the number of Advanced Placement, Intl.
Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school
in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors. Berkeley was
listed at number 278. (To see the complete list go to
http://www.newsweek.com/id/39380 )

Berkeley High's ranking is a significant achievement and credit goes
to our students who pushed themselves to take hard classes, our
teachers who taught them, the administration that encourages higher
level classes and, in no small part, to the volunteers that generously
gave hours and hours of their times to help administer the exam. Last
week, 63 parents took time off from work or gave up their free time to
make sure that our students had an adequate number of proctors for the
1,775 tests which were taken at Berkeley High. Many parents came at
7:30 and were still proctoring at 1. Some stayed until 2 in the
afternoon. Others showed up at 11:30 and stayed as late at 5. Dear
Volunteers, you are simply put, the best. Thank you very much.

2. An official Thank You to a Year's worth of Volunteers. On Thursday,
June 5 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 the administration is hosting a Volunteer
Coffee in Conference Rooms A and B in the Administration Building to
thank the literally hundreds and hundreds of volunteers who have
worked for Berkeley High this year. This invitation is extended to
members of the Front Desk Volunteers, School governance and the BSEP
committees, the leadership committees of each of the small schools and
programs, the Berkeley High Development Fund and the Berkeley
Athletic Fund, volunteers who helped with Registration/Orientation
(back in August 07!), delivered schedule changes and collected no-show
slips (September 07!), worked on mailings through the year, proctored
the EXIT and AP exams, sorted the STAR test, worked the Front Desk,
were Tour Guides and college essay readers, worked on the Red and gold
parent handbook, the college handbook, the student directory, the PTSA
website, the PTSA newsletter, the PTSA, the wonderful trio that keeps
our etree coming, the Student Organizer, those who helped in the
College and Career Center and the Parent Resource Center, went on
field trips and helped in classrooms, and chaperoned at the Junior
Prom and (we hope) the Senior Ball.

Please come have coffee and tea, baked goods and fresh berries and
meet the many many people who care deeply about our wonderful Berkeley
High School as well as the Berkeley High Staff which is very grateful
for the support of an amazing community.
