Administration

*1. No school on Monday, May 19th,  Malcolm X Birthday.

*2. Tryouts for Seniors who want to speak or perform at graduation 
will be held today, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14th.  All auditions 
will be held in the Little Theater starting at 3:30 pm.  To sign up, 
please come to the main office- see Richard Ng.

*3. BHS Summer School takes place Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, 
July 25.  Applications and course offerings are available through 
your counselor.  Priority registration takes place from now until 
June 2nd.  Summer school is offered only to students who earned a D 
or an F in an academic class.  If you think you may need to be in 
Summer School, make sure you register now!

4. The tuxedo man will be here Wednesday at lunch.

Clubs

1. Yearbooks for sale in H102.  Buy them soon.   $75 dollars for
everyone, $60 for reduced lunch.  2 for 1 deal 07 and 08 for $100.
Look for $5 off coupon in the latest jacket.  Also, yearbook students
meet today in H102.

*2. The fashion club second meeting is postponed until Thursday after 
school in C220, be there.

*3. Earphone English- Wednesday in C116 at lunch.  Please bring back 
all audio books that you have from the club, and help us plan the end 
of the year party.



Sports

*1. Cheerleading practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 
4-6 in the Dance Room.  Newcomers are welcome to join.  You must have 
a complete athletic packet, including a recent physical, to join the 
practices.  A second tryout will be held to place all cheerleaders in 
mid-May.  If you want to cheer in 2008, get out to practices and 
learn the cheers.  Coaches are Ashley Jenkins and Theresa Whitchurch. 
If you have questions, contact coordinator Nichelle Garner at 
776-8194.


All Students

1. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - Thursday, May 22, Lake Temescal, East Bay
Regional Park District hosts Special Kids Fishing Derbies for disabled
elementary school children.  Every child needs an older "buddy" to
escort them through the day's activities.  Volunteers will attend an
orientation before the elementary students arrive, receive a free
t-shirt and breakfast and lunch.  For more information, call

Senior / Junior Section

1. SENIORS- Please take a look at the Potential GRAD list.  If you
find any discrepancies, please see Ms. Mellion in room D173 at
lunchtime or after school.  The list will be posted in the College
Advisors room- D221.

2. JUNIORS - College Information Night, Tuesday, May 13, 7:30 pm,
Scottish Rite Center, 1547 Lakeside Dr., Oakland.  Student/Parent
sessions sponsored by Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn and Stanford.

*3. SAT/ACT TEST DATES - May 9 is the regular registration deadline
for the June 14 ACT test.  Fee waivers for low income students are
available in D221.   May 15 is the late registration deadline for the
June 7 SAT and SAT subject tests.  These are the last tests until the
fall.

*4. SCHOLARSHIP - Gill Scholarship - open to graduating seniors who
are planning a major in business, computer science, engineering,
health science, teaching, math or the natural sciences and have a
minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0.  Deadline has been extended until May
16.  $2,000 scholarship per year, renewable for three additional years
in college.  Applications available in D221


Events/ Performances

*1. Berkeley High Afro- Haitian  Dance Performance takes place on May 
16, 2008 at 8pm.  Purchase  your tickets from Mr. McKnight or in the 
dance room from Mama Naomi.

*2. Auditions for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF!  Youth Musical Theater Company will
be holding auditions the first week in June for its fall show.
FIDDLER, which is based on Sholem Aleichem's tales of shtetl life in
Russia at the end of the 19th century, is a classic musical about the
tension between keeping traditions and family together, while facing a
changing, sometimes violent new world.  We are looking for singers,
actors and dancers of all ethnicities.  On the surface this is a story
about Russian Jews, but it is truly a story about all immigrants who
have to leave their homes, traditions and families behind to make new lives for
themselves somewhere else.  Information meeting on May 19 at 5:00 at
Willard Middle School's Metal Shop Theater.  For more information, go to

Summer Opportunities

1. STAGE DOOR CONSERVATORY will be hiring three students to work as
apprentices from June 16 through August 25.  Apprentices will assist
with the day-to-day operation of our musical theater camp and with
rehearsals. They will also select and focus upon one specialty area
and focus on this area during their apprenticeship.  Each apprentice
will be paid a $1,000 stipend at the conclusion of the 10 week period
and can be absent for one week during the season, with the exception
of the weeks of August 2 and August 18. Program hours: 8:30 AM to 4:00
PM, MON - FRI. Apprentices must also work at our shows on August 8, 9
and 10 and 22, 23 and 24.  For more information and an application,
