Many thanks to the volunteers who have already offered to help at the
exciting all day Story Telling Festival on Thursday, March 20, Periods 1 -6
(8:30 to 3:15). We are looking for volunteers that can come for at least one
and maybe two sessions. It promises to be a very interesting and special
event. English Teacher Alan Miller who has organized the event needs
volunteers to help students to their seats and generally, to maintain order
during the event. The storytellers scheduled to appear are:
1. Periods 1,2: (8:30 to 10:30)
Karen McKie, an African American and former BHS parent who has served on
numerous district and site committees. She uses dolls to tell stories about
her youth...
2. Periods 3,4: (10:30 to 11:30 then 12:15 to 1:15)
Charlie Chin, a classically trained Chinese storyteller who has done voice
over work for many films and commercials...
3. Periods 5,6: (1:20 to 3:15)
Ruth Halpern, the sister of BHS teacher Phil Halpern and has done writing
workshops and storytelling with the local writer Joel ben Izzy....
Each will tell stories and answer questions about storytelling. This
festival is scheduled in conjunction with several sophomore classes reading
Chinua Achebe's novel, Things Fall Apart.
Mr. Miller can use 4 -5 volunteers each period. If you are interested in
helping at this very special event, please email Mr. Miller and copy Janet
Huseby with the times you can come. Thank you very much!
