STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
March 10, 2008

Administration

1.  CAHSEE Exit Exams will be offered next week for 12th graders and
make up for any 10th or 11th graders. English test will be held on
Tuesday March 11th at 7:30 am.  The Math test will be held on March
12th at 7:30 am.

2.  Are you currently enrolled in an AP class and plan to take the AP
test in May, 2008?  Registration for the tests begins Monday, March 3
through March 14 during lunch and after school to 4 pm at the D
building ticket window on Allston Way.  Tests cost $96 for each of the
first two and $86 for each subsequent test.  There are test subsidies
available for low and middle income students.  See your AP teacher for
fee reduction information and for a registration form.  You may pay
with cash, personal check or money order payable to Berkeley high
School.  Do NOT wait until the last day to register.

3.  Don't forget to buy your Junior Prom tickets.  Tickets are on sale
for $60 this week in the box office at lunch and after school.  If you
receive free or reduced price lunch, please stop by D148.  Go juniors,
please show your junior spirit and support junior leadership.

4. New Math Analysis Tutoring on Monday's and Wednesday's in Ms
Bracken's Room H-111 3:15 pm - 4:30 pm in H-111.

5. Spanish tutoring available: Monday 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm in C-135
				         Tuesday 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm in
H-201
				         Wednesday 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
in C-106

6. Yearbooks are for sale in H102 during lunch and 7th Period.
Yearbooks are $55 for students that get free and /or reduced lunch,
$70 for everyone else. If you need financial help come talk to the
yearbook staff. There are still a few senior pages leftŠbuy fast. If
we do not sell 900 yearbooks, there might not be a yearbook next year
at Berkeley High.
   

Clubs

1. Knitters! Spring is coming, but you can get a head start on
knitting a scarf or a hat for next winter.  Bring your lunch to the
library any day; pick yarn from our extensive treasure trove and
browse through the library's collection of inspiring knitting books.


Sports

1. Berkeley Girls defeated Kennedy of Sacramento 72-53 in the Division
I Norcal Basketball Championship last Saturday at Arco Arena and
secured their eighth trip to the state championship and their third in
a row.  We face Long Beach Poly on Saturday, March 15, at 6:00 pm at
Arco Arena. Presale tickets may be purchased through the BHS Athletic
office starting after school Monday. 

Students $10/ Adults $16.  Parking at Arco Arena is $12.  Rooter bus
tickets will be sold through Thursday afternoon.  For a ride and a
ticket to the game - $20 student/ $25 adult.  The rooter bus will
leave at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.  Come out and support your Lady
Jackets!


Senior / Junior Section

1. Gap Year Fair - Sunday, March 16, 2:00-4:00 pm, Jewish Community
High School of the Bay, 1835 Ellis Street, San Francisco.  Free fair
with exhibitors offering a variety of gap year options for students
who are interested in taking some time off before attending college.

2.  FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES - The Bay Area Hispanic Youth Symposium
will be held June 25-28 at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga.
There is space for 150-200 students.  To be eligible, students must
have an overall GPA of
2.5 or above and be a current freshman or sophomore in high school.
The Hispanic Youth Symposium is a four day, three night program that
provides:  College access and matriculation information, Career
exposure, A network of role models and mentors, Culturally relevant
curriculum, Motivational speakers, Leadership development workshops,
College life experience and $14,000 in scholarships through speech,
art, talent, and essay competitions.  Application deadline:  March 15.

3. SCHOLARSHIPS - Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts -
Scholarships offered in the areas of voice, acting and dance.  Open to
seniors who are legal residents of the U.S.  One winner from each
category will be awarded $10,000 to be used for higher education.
Applications available in D221.  Deadline:  April 25.
