STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
March 7, 2008
Administration
1. CAHSEE Exit Exams will be offered next week
for 12th graders and make up for any 10th or 11th
graders. English test will be held on Tuesday
March 11th at 7:30 am. The Math test will be
held on March 12th at 7:30 am.
2. Are you currently enrolled in an AP class and
plan to take the AP test in May, 2008?
Registration for the tests begins Monday, March 3
through March 14 during lunch and after school to
4 pm at the D building ticket window on Allston
Way. Tests cost $96 for each of the first two
and $86 for each subsequent test. There are test
subsidies available for low and middle income
students. See your AP teacher for fee reduction
information and for a registration form. You may
pay with cash, personal check or money order
payable to Berkeley high School. Do NOT wait
until the last day to register.
3. Don't forget to buy your Junior Prom tickets.
Tickets are on sale for $60 this week in the box
office at lunch and after school. If you receive
free or reduce lunch, please stop by D148. Go
juniors, please show your junior spirit and
support junior leadership.
4. February 25th through March 7th: BHS
Counselors have reserved the computer labs in
G204 and the library from first through sixth
periods every day from February 25th through
March 7th for online scheduling. The labs will
not be open to students during class time. The
labs WILL be open before school, during lunch,
and after school. Please plan accordingly if you
need to use the computer lab to complete your
homework or class assignments. Thank you!
5. Yearbooks are for sale in H102 during lunch
and 7th Period. Yearbooks are $55 for students
that get free and /or reduced lunch, $70 for
everyone else. If you need financial help come
talk to the yearbook staff. There are still a few
senior pages leftbuy fast. If we do not sell 900
yearbooks, there might not be a yearbook next
year at Berkeley High.
Clubs
1. Knitters! Spring is coming, but you can get a
head start on knitting a scarf or a hat for next
winter. Bring your lunch to the library any day;
pick yarn from our extensive treasure trove and
browse through the library's collection of
inspiring knitting books.
Sports
1. The girls basketball team beat San Benito of Hollister last night in the
third round of the CIF Norcal Division I tournament. They face Kennedy of
Sacramento at Arco Arena this Saturday 5/8 at 10:00 am in the Norcal
Championship. The winner moves on to the State Championship game at Arco
Arena on Saturday 3/15 at 6:00. Tickets may be purchased at Arco Arena or
at www.ticketmaster.com. Students $10/Adults $16. Go Jackets!
2. The Berkeley High Track and Field team participated in the Skyline
Invitational this past weekend. We had a good showing led by Tim Harvey
finishing third overall in the Boys Invitational 400m run, Tim run a time
of 53.36 for the event. The distance runners did an outstanding job also
led by Jacob Horn in the mile with a good time of 5:03.66
Senior / Junior Section
1. SAT/ACT TEST DATES - Today March 7 is the
regular registration deadline for the April 12
ACT test. April 1 is the regular registration
deadline for the May 3 SAT and SAT subject tests.
Fee waivers for low income students are available
in D221.
2. Gap Year Fair - Sunday, March 16, 2:00-4:00
pm, Jewish Community High School of the Bay, 1835
Ellis Street, San Francisco. Free fair with
exhibitors offering a variety of gap year options
for students who are interested in taking some
time off before attending college. For more

3. FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES - The Bay Area
Hispanic Youth Symposium will be held June 25-28
at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga.
There is space for 150-200 students. To be
eligible, students must have an overall GPA of
2.5 or above and be a current freshman or
sophomore in high school. The Hispanic Youth
Symposium is a four day, three night program that
provides: College access and matriculation
information, Career exposure, A network of role
models and mentors, Culturally relevant
curriculum, Motivational speakers, Leadership
development workshops, College life experience
and $14,000 in scholarships through speech, art,
talent, and essay competitions. Application
deadline: March 15. Apply at:

5. SCHOLARSHIPS - Beach Blanket Babylon
Scholarship for the Arts - Scholarships offered
in the areas of voice, acting and dance. Open to
seniors who are legal residents of the U.S. One
winner from each category will be awarded $10,000
to be used for higher education. Applications
available in D221. Deadline: April 25.
6. Are you planning on attending the Junior prom
or Senior ball but can't afford a dress for the
event? Princess Project will be providing "Free
dresses and accessories" for BHS girls who are in
need of a prom dress. For more information
contact Irma Parker in room D224 at lunch time by
March 7, 2008.
Events/ Performance
1. Got Independence? Come out and see
Independent Theater Projects, three one act plays
independently produced, directed and acted in by
BHS students ITPs. Performs today Friday (3/7)
and Saturday (3/8) at the Hillside Club (2286
Cedar St). Curtain: 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12
general admission and $5 students.
