Administration

*1. BSEP Meeting, Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in conference room B from 
5:00-8:30pm.  Agenda items: Establish a quorum; Introductions; 
Approval of minutes; Approval of agenda-additions/changes; Public 
comment; 2nd presentation of a Program evaluation using a Rubric for 
meeting WASC goals; Discussion of Criteria for acceptable Proposals 
for inclusion in the 2008-9 budget; Vote on which programs to keep; 
Presentation of Measure A.

*2. Late start Wednesday, March 5, 2008.  Students begin school at 10:00 am.

3. Are you currently enrolled in an AP class and plan to take the AP 
test in May, 2008?  Registration for the tests begins Monday, March 3 
through March 14 during lunch and after school to 4 pm at the D 
building ticket window on Allston Way.  Tests cost $96 for each of 
the first two and $86 for each subsequent test.  There are test 
subsidies available for low and middle income students.  See your AP 
teacher for fee reduction information and for a registration form. 
You may pay with cash, personal check or money order payable to 
Berkeley high School.  Do NOT wait until the last day to register.

4. Attention BHS students- improve those second semester grades. 
Study skills workshop Thursday, March 6 from 7-8 PM in the library. 
Find out about your best learning style, study  and test taking tips.

5. BHS Counselors have reserved the computer labs in G204 and the 
library from first through sixth periods  through March 7th for 
online scheduling. The labs will not be open to students during class 
time.  The labs WILL be open before school, during lunch, and after 
school.  Please plan accordingly if you need to use the computer lab 
to complete your homework or class assignments.  Thank you!

Clubs

1. Asian and Pacific Islander Committee next meeting on March 6.


Sports

*1. Mountain bike team members- your uniforms are in.  Pick them up 
at the team office.

*2. The Berkeley Girls Varity Softball team needs its fans to come 
show support!  Come to the home game today, Monday, March 3 at Grove 
Park at 3:30 (MLK and Russell St) against Arroyo.  See the skilled 
and swift plays of your very own Jackets!  Next home game is Friday, 
March 21 at 3:30 pm against Alameda.


Senior / Junior Section

1. SENIORS - Community College Day - Tuesday, March 4 in the 
College/Career Center.  Get information on course offerings, 
applying, career and transfer programs, assessment tests and more. 
The schedule is:

10:35 Berkeley City College
12:20 San Francisco City College
1:20 Laney College
2:20 Merritt College
Sign up in D221 to attend.

2. The Berkeley Community Fund Scholarship is coming - On Wednesday, 
March 5, get information on the scholarship and mentorship programs 
available.  Two kinds of scholarships are available:  $4,000 per year 
for four years including a mentor, and one-time scholarships from 
$500 and up.  Presentation will be given twice in Conference Room B, 
once at lunch (12:16-12:56, late start day) and once after school 
(3:15).  Sign up in D221 to attend.

3. Gap Year Fair - Sunday, March 16, 2:00-4:00 pm, Jewish Community 
High School of the Bay, 1835 Ellis Street, San Francisco.  Free fair 
with exhibitors offering a variety of gap year options for students 
who are interested in taking some time off before attending college.

4. SAT/ACT Test dates- March 7 is the regular registration deadline
for the April 12 ACT test.  April 1 is the regular registration
deadline for the May 3 SAT and SAT subject tests.  Fee waivers for low
income students are available in D221.


Freshman/ Sophomore

  The Bay Area Hispanic Youth Symposium will be held June 25-28 at 
St. Mary's College of California in Moraga.  There is space for 
150-200 students.  To be eligible, students must have an overall GPA 
of 2.5 or above and be a current freshman or sophomore in high 
school.  The Hispanic Youth Symposium is a four day, three night 
program that provides:  College access and matriculation information, 
Career exposure, A network of role models and mentors, Culturally 
relevant curriculum, Motivational speakers, Leadership development 
workshops, College life experience and $14,000 in scholarships 
through speech, art, talent, and essay competitions.  Application 
deadline:  March 15.  Apply at:

Events/Performances

1. Got Independence?  Come out and see Independent Theater Projects, 
three one act plays independently produced, directed and acted in by 
BHS students ITPs. Performs this Friday (3/7) and Saturday (3/8) at 
the Hillside Club (2286 Cedar St).  Curtain: 7:30 pm.  Tickets are 
$12 general admission and $5 students.

2. Got Catwalk Potential?  Come Audition for African-American 
Department 1st Annual Fashion Show.  Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 
lunchtime and 3:30 pm.  Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors- tryouts in 
the D bldg Dance room
