STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
February 26, 2008

Administration

*1. BART Tickets have arrived - please pick up your tickets by today 
in room D224 at lunchtime and after school.  Bart ticket orders will 
be taken on February 27 and 28th at lunchtime in room D224.  Ticket 
price is $16. You may purchase as many tickets as you would like. 
Cash only; Tickets will arrive to BHS from Bart within  5-7 workdays.

*2. Attention all contestants in the Berkeley High Talent Show: there 
is a mandatory meeting after school in conference room B.  It begins 
at 3:30 PM.

*3. Today at lunch, there will be an informational meeting about AP 
Music Theory and I. B. Music Class for next year.  Come find out all 
you need to know.

*4. Attention BHS students- improve those second semester grades. 
Study skills workshop Thursday, March 6th from 7-8 PM in the library. 
Find out about your best learning style, study  and test taking tips.

*5. Did you know that 99.9% of all dead people did not take AP 
Statistics in high school?  Save yourselves!  Sign up for AP 
Statistics.

6. Student directories are here!  Please pick one up if you have not
done so. They will be available to anyone in the administration
office.

7. Tutors are back in the SLC.  Chemistry study session on Monday and
Wednesday after school.

8. February 25th through March 7th:  BHS Counselors have reserved the
computer labs in G204 and the library from first through sixth periods
every day from February 25th through March 7th for online scheduling.
The labs will not be open to students during class time.  The labs
WILL be open before school, during lunch, and after school.  Please
plan accordingly if you need to use the computer lab to complete your
homework or class assignments.  Thank you!

9. BSEP applications are available!  Online copies are available.  You
can pick up copies from the administration office. BSEP Applications 
are due February 29th.


Clubs

*1. If you missed last month's, Tuesday 2/26 is Condom Club!  Come 
learn the facts about HIV, STIs, and how to be safe.  Lunchtime in 
room H114.  Remember, you must attend the entire lunch period to get 
a sticker on the back of your ID, which is good for the rest of your 
time at BHS!  Snacks will be served.  Brought to you by PASSHEN.

*2. Interested in doing hair and make up for the musical Grease?  If 
so, then come to an informational meeting in A203 on Wednesday, 
February 27th at lunch.

3. Are you a leader or looking to become one?  Do you have creative
ideas for social activities, service projects or fundraisers and are
motivated to take action?  Are you a photographer, journalist, artist,
or website builder?  Think you can find some ways to better appreciate
our staff?  If your answer is yes to any of these questions ASB wants
you to fill out an application for one of our new positions available
in D148!  Do it now because applications are due February 26.


Sports

*1. The girls basketball team progresses to the semi-final round of 
the NCS Division I tournament.  They face Monte Vista on Wednesday at 
7:30 pm in the Donahue Gym.  Tickets are $8 adult/ $5 student.  No 
passes are accepted for this event.  Come on out and support the Lady 
Jackets!

*2. Congratulations to the boys basketball team on a successful season.  ACCAL
Co-Champions and a strong showing the the NCS Tourament this year.  We're
proud of you!

*3. Congratulations to Sophomore Miya Sommers for placing 4th at the NCS
Girl's Wrestling Championships last Saturday. Miya went 3-2 and defeated
two seeded wrestlers to make it to the Consolation Finals.



Senior / Junior Section

1. SAT/ACT Test dates- March 7 is the regular registration deadline
for the April 12 ACT test.  April 1 is the regular registration
deadline for the May 3 SAT and SAT subject tests.  Fee waivers for low
income students are available in D221.

*2. All seniors! There is a senior hoody!  They will be pre-sold for 
$30 up until February  29th.

*3. Yearbooks: Please, all seniors who turned in a baby picture- come 
pick them up in H102 after school this week!  Senior pages are due by 
next Friday the 29th of February.  Come buy your yearbook today at 
lunch or after school in H102.  If you qualify for free or reduced 
lunch you pay only $55.00.  Otherwise the yearbook is only $70 but 
that price will increase so buy them now!

4. If you are considering attending a Cal State campus, you must sign
up to take placement tests - ELM for math and EPT for English.
Students who score 550 or higher on the SAT math or 23 or higher on
the ACT math are excused from the math test.  Students who score 550
or higher on the SAT critical reading section or 24 or higher on the
ACT English are excused from the English placement test.  You must
have the results from the placement tests before you can register for
classes, so take the earliest possible test.  You can take the test at
any Cal State campus and the results will be sent to all CSU campuses.

Francisco State, go to www.sfsu.edu/~testing/ee.html .  If you do not
have a SF State ID number, enter your social security number.  The fee
for each test is $18, which can be paid on the day of the test.

5. African American Education Summit - Saturday, March 1, Cal State
East Bay, 9:00-3:00.  Includes empowering workshops for students and
parents; college admission information and resources; financial aid
and scholarship information; entertainment and vendor expo.  Lunch and
transportation provided.  For more information and to register, go to

6. SUMMER - Metropolitan Transportation Commission Summer High School
Internship Program - Students must be at least 16 years old, have
completed the 10th grade and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher (although
some students with lower GPA will be considered).  Graduating seniors
are eligible to apply. Interns will learn about opportunities in the
transportation field and provide assistance to MTC's transportation
partners.  25 internships available at sites throughout the Bay Area.
Interns are paid $9.50 per hour and may work full or part-time for up
to 8 weeks between June and August.  Applications available in D221 or
at http://www.mtc.ca.gov/jobs/high_school . Deadline:  March 28.

7. FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES - The Bay Area Hispanic Youth Symposium
will be held June 25-28 at  St. Mary's College of California in
Moraga.  There is space for 150-200 students.  To be eligible,
students must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or above and be a current
freshman or sophomore in high school.  The Hispanic Youth Symposium is
a four day, three night program that provides:  College access and
matriculation information, Career exposure, A network of role models
and mentors, Culturally relevant curriculum, Motivational speakers,
Leadership development workshops, College life experience and $14,000
in scholarships through speech, art, talent, and essay competitions.

8. SCHOLARSHIPS - Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts -
Scholarships offered in the areas of voice, acting and dance.  Open to
seniors who are legal residents of the U.S.  One winner from each
category will be awarded $10,000 to be used for higher education.
Applications available in D221.  Deadline:  April 25.

Events/Performances

1. Youth Spirit Art Works is holding an art competition for Berkeley
youth, giving young people the opportunity to create art designs for
wooden benches along the Adeline Street Corridor in South Berkeley.
