Administration

1. SPIRIT DAY - Superhero Day

*2. The Berkeley High School Yearbook deadline for senior portraits 
has been extended one FINAL time.  If you have not already been 
photographed for Berkeley High School, please make sure to go online 
and schedule an appointment.  The deadline is October 30th and will 
NOT be extended again.
The limited number of new appointments are available online.  Please 
go to our website, http://www.abcschoolportraits.com, and visit the 
Seniors section (click on "Appointments").

3. The Spanish Inquisition in Berkeley?  Come see Youth Musical
Theater Company's production of MAN OF LA MANCHA!  Opens on Friday,
October 26 at 8:00 pm at Longfellow Auditorium.  Don't miss this
classic comic drama about one man's fight to make the world a better
place.  Great music and a terrific cast, including 16 students from
Berkeley High!  Check out the posters around school or go to our

4. Students, first progress reports are in and the quarter ends this
week. Here are some tips to boost your grades: talk to your teacher
and ask where to focus to improve your grade, turn in all missing
work, ask about extra credit, attend an after school teacher tutorial,
visit the Student Learning Center; put in more study time; and
continue these study habits throughout the year.

5. Rally Information:

Wednesday- Superhero
Thursday- 80's day (seniors)/Backwards Day (underclassmen)
Friday - Red and Gold Day

Hey Berkeley High!  Come out to the community theater steps at
lunch on Wednesday for Super Hero Day for the Junior Idol Competition.
A rap, dance, and singing battle!  Winners are chosen by the audience
so bring your friends!  Winners get free rally day shirts and free Jr
prom tickets!  Open to all grades!  See ya there!

Clubs

*1. Habitat for Humanity Club is just getting started here at BHS. 
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds affordable 
housing for people who can't afford proper housing.  For anyone who 
would like to help the community, get community service or tutoring 
hours and have fun, please join.  Come to room C216 at lunch every 
Wednesday to see what affordable housing is all about.

2.  Earphone English on Wednesday.  Get your lunch quickly and then 
come to C116 to eat and talk with others about what you're listening 
to, and whatever else!

3. Yearbooks on sale at lunchtime in front of the Theater or at 7th
period in H102 for $70.00.  Buy them for $65.00 on myyear.com until
October 31st.

4. Come to Ping Pong club's first tournament.  Matches will learn
begin on Tuesday, October 23.  Sign up this Tuesday and Friday during
lunch in the Ping Pong Room, 2nd floor, old gym.  Regular play will
also continue this Tuesday and Friday open to all levels.

5. The Berkeley High Gay Straight Alliance meets every Wednesday at
lunch in G216.

6. To all sophomores, juniors and seniors of Academic Choice: Come
and be a mentor.  Get tutoring hours and community service credit.  We
will visit freshman English classes once a month.  If you're
interested, come to our meeting in C213 at lunch on Thursday, October
25th.

Sports

1. To all BHS students who want to tryout for basketball, soccer or
wrestling:  You must have a valid annual physical and a complete
athletic packet to try out.  Now is the time to get a physical!
Athletic packets are available in the athletic office or in the front
office.  Turn it into the coach on first day of practice.  All winter
sports start on Monday, November 5.   Don't miss your opportunity to
play- get your paperwork together now!

2. Neff returns for Letter Jacket sales:  Wednesday October 24th at
lunch.  You can buy your letters for $10, size your jacket, and pick
up order forms in the athletic office from now until that date.  Don't
miss your chance to have your jacket by the holidays.


Senior / Junior Section

1. Essay Readers and workshops- Essay readers will be available in the
College/Career Center at lunch time this week and next.  No sign-ups
are necessary; just bring your essay draft.

2. APPLY TO THE UCs AND CAL SATES NOW! The UC application is now
available online at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/.
You can start your application and work on it now.  The first day to
submit your application is November1.  The Cal State application is
available at www.csumentor.edu.  You can start the applications and
save them as you go.  Sign up attend the application workshops where
you can get one on one help with both applications.  All workshops
will be held in the BHS library.  Tuesday, 10/23-3:30 p.m., Friday,
10/26- 7:30 a.m., MONDAY, 10/29- 3:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, 10/30- 7:30 a.m.    More dates in November.

3. Seniors, Baby pictures are still being accepted for the year book.
If you would like to have your baby picture in the yearbook, write
your first and last name

4. SENIORS-Sign up in the College/ Career Center to attend these
college visits.  You must get an authorization (Available in D221)
signed by the teacher whose class you will miss.

Events / Performances

1. The 7th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities tour
will be held April 1 - April 8, 2007 (Tour A).  If any student is
interested in the tour, please see Mrs. Parker in room D224.

2. For Halloween- this year be a scary surprise and come donate
blood to the blood drive. It's on October 30th in the Jacket Gym.
Come well rested and ready to make a spooky change in someone's life.
Not everyone is able to participate -- see the sign-in sheet for more
details or go to room D148.

Tutorials

Free School wide tutorials. Step Up the Academics and improve those
first quarter grades.
