2. Seniors! If you have not taken your senior portraits, more

3. BSEP Meeting, Tuesday, October 9, 2007 4:30 - 6:00pm.  Agenda
Items: Members and alternates sign in; establish a quorum;
introductions; approval of minutes from last meeting; public comment;
approval of agenda-additions/changes; chair report; elect chairperson;
elect 4 reps to the BSEP Planning and Oversight committee; Elect 2
representatives to Shared Governance Committee; Plan for evaluation of
programs funded for Fiscal year 2007/8; Approve calendars of meeting
for the school year.

4. Attention sophomores and juniors- This year's PSAT will be
Saturday, October 20 at 8am.  Sign-ups will be October 1 through 10 at
lunch and after school to 4 pm at the D-building ticket windows on
Allston Way. The test fee is $22 cash or money order payable to
Berkeley High School.  This is an excellent practice for the SAT and
for Juniors the test to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship
programs.  Do NOT wait to sign up on the last days.  The line will be
LONG!

5. Confidential Drug and Alcohol Therapy group starts, October 8.  A
good place to talk about your drug use and get support and advice for
making changes in your life.


RALLY INFORMATION

2. Do you want to represent your class and be Homecoming Royalty?
Applications are available now in D148.

3. Spirit week is coming soon - October 22-26th! Support your class
with a t-shirt design or by joining the rally dance.  The Associated
Student Body, ASB, is currently taking ideas for spirit week!  Bring
them by D148 or come by for more information.

4. Do you like to draw? The sophomore class of 2010 is looking for
t-shirt designs for our rally day shirt!  Have any ideas or drawings?
Submit them to Mrs. Jordan in D148 and represent your class of 2010.


Clubs

*1. Interested in the working of our National government?  See Hilary,
Obama, Diane F or Barbara Boxer in action.  Please come to an
informational meeting on close-up. It will be a fun time.  Lunchtime in
G201 on October 9, 2004.

*2. Mandatory yearbook meeting this Friday at lunch in H102.  Everyone is
enrolled needs to be there!

*3. Come join the Black student Union, it meets every Wednesday at lunch
Mr. McKnight's in H211 if you are interested come hold it down with us.

4. Are you a skeptic when it comes to religion?  Do you sometimes
wonder what's the deal with religion and all that?  Come to Youth for
Christ Club on Fridays at lunch at G302.  Everyone is welcome, whether
you're an average churchgoer or just interested.


Sports

*1. To all BHS students who want to tryout for basketball, soccer or
wrestling:  You must have a valid annual physical and a complete athletic
packet to try out.  Now is the time to get a physical!  Athletic packets
are available in the athletic office or in the front office.  Turn it in
the coach on first day of practice.  All winter sports start on Monday,
November 5.   Don't miss your opportunity to play-get your paperwork
together now!

2. There is a brief mandatory, boys soccer meeting on Friday at lunch
in room C127 for boys trying out for the Varsity soccer team.  Begin
turning in your physical exam and Emergency forms to Coach Juarez in
C127.

3. Neff will be on campus selling letter jackets on Tuesday, October
9th at lunch and immediately after school in the athletic office.
Order forms are available in the athletic office.  Letter award
winners may purchase cloth awards for $10.  The jacket is purchased
directly from Neff- cost depending on add-ons, is $160-180.  Check or
Visa are accepted. Jackets are available in red w/ cream sleeves and
black w/ black sleeves.


Senior/Junior Section

*1. APPLY TO THE UC's AND CAL STATES NOW! The UC application is now
available online at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/.
You can start your application and work on it now.  The first day to
submit your application is November 1.  The Cal State application is
available at [ http://www.csumentor.edu ]www.csumentor.edu.  You can start
the applications and save them as you go.  Sign up to attend the application
workshops where you can get one on one help with both applications.  All
workshops will be held in the BHS library.  Thursday, 10/18- 7:30 am;
Tuesday, 10/23-3:30 pm; Friday, 10/26- 7:30 am; MONDAY, 10/29- 3:30 pm;
Tuesday, 10/30- 7:30 am.    More dates in November.

2. Essay Readers and workshops- Essay readers will be available in
the College/Career Center at lunch time this week and next.  No
sign-ups are necessary; just bring your essay draft.

3. Essay writing workshops:  Morning workshops will be held in the
College/career.  Afternoon workshops in either Conference room A or B.
Students must sign up to attend.

4. SENIORS-Sign up in the College/Career Center to attend these

Events/Performances

1. Come celebrate our freedom to read this week during Banned Book
Week!  Come to the library to see the display of titles that have been
challenged in school and public libraries.  Fill out a slip to guess
why someone objected to each of these books.


Jobs

1. Student workers needed- Work at Berkeley Natural Food Store.  For
more information, please contact 510-526-2456.

2. King Middle School After school ELL Tutorial is looking for Spanish
bilingual tutors who can work from 3-4, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday,
and from 2:15-3:15 on Wednesday.  We'll also hire monolingual English
speaking tutors who want to patiently work with middle school
students. You must be good in Pre-Algebra and Algebra and/or Science.
You must be in the 11th or 12th grade and able to get to King in time!
Pay-$9.00/hour.  Come by the Science Building, room 7 and ask for
Patricia Rathwell or Akemi Hamai, or call 644-4811.

3.  Albany Physical Therapy has an opening for a student to work 15-18
hours per week (approximately 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday).  The
student is responsible for filing, faxing, copying, laundry,
straightening up treatment rooms and other miscellaneous jobs.
Contact Sherry at 526-2353.  Wages: $8/hour.

4.  City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for jobs working with
all ages of children in a variety of recreation settings.  Students
must be at least 16 years old.  Flexible scheduling around school
schedules.  Pay $10.25 - $14.86 per hour depending on experience.
Apply at the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El

5. Looking for someone to do yard work.  Starting at $10/hour.  2-5
