STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. Today, September 12th is the first LATE START Wednesday.  Remember
school begins at 10:00 a.m. for students.

2. The health center will be closed today, September 12th.  Sorry for the
inconvenience.

3. The Good morning Café is open.  Come on by H106 during 1st and 2nd
period for your mid-morning cravings.  Teachers can request coffee
delivery. We serve cinnamon rolls, bagels, hot chocolate, muffins, fruit
snacks and more.

4. Students and Staff- Make-up photo Ids will take place again on
September 18th. Last Chance!  Don't miss it! The time is
2:30-5:30 p.m.  Don't miss this date!  Look for the portable between the
gym and the G building.

5. BHS Mathworks- Opens this week! Algebra I and Geometry Tutoring
Emphasis- all math questions welcome.  Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15 -4:30
p.m., room H109 in Scott Willson's room.  Questions go to [

6. Mathworks needs you!  Get community service, tutoring credits and
be a leader.  Come tutor at Willard, Tuesdays 3-4:30 p.m., starting

7. If you were enrolled in Mr. Miller's English classes last year,
you may pick up your work folders on Monday and Friday, after school
from 3:20 -4:25 p.m., for the next two weeks.

Clubs

*1.  Come to Ms. Stahl's room at lunch if you are interested in illustrating
for the Jacket on Wednesday, room G112.

2.  Are you a CHESS NUT?  Have you always wanted to learn or improve your
chess?  Now's your chance to make your move!  Come to C-125 any Thursday
(starting this week) from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.  Chess is a hip, sexy,
international game with endless benefits that include improved academic
success.  Don't miss out!

3. To all sophomores, juniors and seniors of Academic Choice: come and be
a mentor.  Get tutoring and community service credit.  We will be going
into AC freshman English classes once a month.  Even if you are new to
Academic Choice this year, come to our informational meeting in C213 at
lunch on Thursday.  If you can't make the meeting, contact Zahra Axinn by

4.  Do you like to talk politics?  Do you like to debate and eat free food?
  Come to Berkeley High's very own Junior Statesman of America today at
lunch in C310.

5.  Are you interested in learning more about French Culture?  DO you like
French movies or food?   Or do you just like having fun?  If so, be sure
to come to French club every Friday at lunch in C102.  Also, come by if
you want ot find out how you can go to France for 9 days this school year!

6. The first Gay Straight Alliance meeting is today, September 12, 2007 at
lunch in Ms. Murphy's room G216.  Come enjoy food, friends, and a good
time.

7. PASSHEN! (Peers Advocating Safety and Sexual Health education now!)
is recruiting new peer educators for the 2007-2008 school year.  Get
paid and get class credit while educating your BHS peers!  Pick up
applications in H105 (Health Center).  All applications are due
September 13 by 3 p.m.


Sports

1. Attention all girls:  Open gym basketball is Tuesday and Thursday
in the jacket Gym from 4-6 pm.

2. Students interested in Berkeley High Crew should plan on attending
an informational meeting for new and returning rowers on Wednesday,
September 12th at 4:15 pm at the BHS stadium bleachers.  BHS crew has
men's and women's teams and no previous rowing experience is required.

Senior / Junior Section

1. SENIORS-Sign up in the College/ Career Center to attend these college
visits.  You must get an authorization (Available in D221) signed by the
teacher whose class you will miss.

*2. Juniors and Seniors: Military  "opt out" forms are available in the
front office.  Please fill out this form if you do NOT want your name,
address, or phone number disclosed to the military.

*3.  FREE SAT TEST PREP CLASSES- People's test Preparation Service will be
offering free SAT prep classes beginning on Tuesday, September 18.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in
room G302 for 10 weeks.  No registration is necessary.

4. Scholarships- Sinkler Miller Medical Association scholarship- open
to seniors who are SF Bay Area residents with a minimum cumulative GPA
of 3.0 who have financial need.  12 scholarships of $1,000 - $1,500
will be awarded.  Deadline: September 20.  Applications available in
D221.

5. Good Tidings Community Service Scholarship - open to seniors who
live in the SF Bay Area, have participated in community service and
have financial need.  Scholarships range from $2,500 to $5,000.
Deadline is November 9th. Applications available in D221.

6. Ron Brown scholarship Program - open top black or African American
seniors who have shown leadership, commitment to public service and a
desire to make a difference, have financial need and a US citizen or
permanent resident. Scholarship is for $10,000 per year for four
years.  The deadline is November 1 to be eligible for other
scholarships through the Ron Brown program or January 9, 2008 for the
Ron Brown Scholarship only.  Applications available in D221.


Events / Performances

1.  Zoo Careers Night, Friday, September 21, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the
Oakland Zoo.  Find out firsthand what working in a zoo is like and
find out how you can get there yourself.  The program is designed for
teenagers (ages 12-19). Adults may attend, but only to accompany or
chaperone their teens.  A chaperone is not required for teens to
attend.  Cost: $15 teenagers; $7 adults;  For more information,

2.  It's a new school year and that means Spirit Week is coming up!  If you
are interested in dancing, or choreographing a dance for sophomore class
of 2010, then contact Ms. Jordan in D148.


JOBS

*1.  King Middle School After school ELL Tutorial is looking for Spanish
bilingual tutors who can work from 3-4, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and
from 2:15- 3:15 on Wednesday.  We'll also hire monolingual English
speaking tutors who want to patiently work with middle school students.
You must be good in Pre-Algebra and Algebra and/or Science.  You must be
in the 11th or 12th grade and able to get to King in time!
Pay-$9.00/hour.  Come by the Science Building, room 7 and ask for Patricia
Rathwell or Akemi Hamai, or call 644-4811.

*2.  Albany Physical Therapy has an opening for a student to work 15-18
hours per week (approximately 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday).  The
student is responsible for filing, faxing, copying, laundry, straightening
up treatment rooms and other miscellaneous jobs.  Contact Sherry at
526-2353.  Wages: $8/hour.

*3.  Homework helper for 7th grade Latina in Math and English, prefer junior
or senior.  Located 5 blocks from BHS. $12/hour.  Contact Micky Duxbury at
848-2674.

*4.  City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for jobs working with all
ages of children in a variety of recreation settings.  Students must be at
least 16 years old.  Flexible scheduling around school schedules.  Pay
$10.25 - $14.86 per hour depending on experience.  Apply at the El Cerrito
