SAT WORD OF THE DAY: INITIATE – to begin. We are very excited to be
initiating the new school year at Berkeley High School.
FOR ALL STUDENTS
Jobs Available
*Albany Physical Therapy has an opening for a student to work 15-18
hours per week (approximately 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday). The
student is responsible for filing, faxing, copying, laundry,
straightening up treatment rooms and other miscellaneous jobs. Contact
Sherry at 526-2353. Wages: $8/hour.
Homework helper for 7th grade Latina in math and English, prefer junior
or senior. Located 5 blocks from BHS. $12/hour. Contact Micky
Duxbury at 848-2674.
City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for jobs working with all
ages of children in a variety of recreation settings. Students must be
at least 16 years old. Flexible scheduling around school schedules.
Pay: $10.25-$14.86 per hour depending on experience. Apply at the El
Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito. For more

FOR SENIORS
SENIOR PARENT COLLEGE NIGHT – Monday, September 10, 6:30 pm in the
Berkeley High library. Ms. Price and I will be giving a detailed
overview of the college application process. Please come by to get all
your questions answered.
SENIORS: Ms. Price and I will be speaking to your English classes
after Labor Day. You will be able to sign up for an individual
appointment after the class presentations are completed. Until then,
please stop by at lunch or after school to get your questions answered.
REMINDER: If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September 7th
if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action or to any school
which requires a recommendation by November 1 and September 21st for
Regular Decision. You do NOT need to fill these out if you are
applying only to the UC’s, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.
*COLLEGE VISITS
Seniors, sign up in D221 to attend college presentations. All
presentations will be held in the College/Career Center. You must also
pick up an authorization form for your teacher to sign so that you may
miss his or her class. This is a great opportunity to find out more
about what individual colleges have to offer as well as to meet the
admission officer who may be reading your application. Students may
not attend more than 10 college visits during the school year. A

SAT/ACT TEST DATES – Monday, September 10 is the regular registration
deadline for the October 6 SAT and SAT subject tests. Friday,
September 21 is the regular registration deadline for the October 27
ACT test. Fee waivers for low income students are available in D221.
COLLEGE FAIR
Jesuit College Fair - Sunday, September 9, 12-2pm, St. Ignatius College
Prep, 2001-37th Avenue, SF – Meet with representatives from over 15
different Jesuit colleges from California and around the country. Many
are smaller schools which provide small classes, close relationships
with professors, and many community service, athletic and other
opportunities.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Sinkler Miller Medical Association Scholarship – Open to graduating
seniors who are SF Bay Area residents with a minimum cumulative GPA of
3.0 who have financial need. 12 scholarships of $1,000-$1,500 will be
awarded. Deadline: September 20. Applications available in D221.
Good Tidings Community Service Scholarship – Open to seniors who live
in the SF Bay Area, have participated in community service and have
financial need. Scholarships range from $2,5000 to $5,000. Deadline:
November 9. Applications available in D221.
Ron Brown Scholarship Program – open to black or African American
seniors who have shown leadership, commitment to public service and a
desire to make a difference, have financial need and are a US citizen
or permanent resident. Scholarship is for $10,000 per year for four
years. The deadline is November 1 to be eligible for other
scholarships through the Ron Brown program or January 9, 2008 for the
Ron Brown Scholarship only. Applications available in D221.
