FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM THE BERKELEY HIGH ETREE

Over the years, the BHS e-tree has received many questions about the
BHS ORIENTATION/REGISTRATION WEEK. We have compiled the answers to
the most commonly asked questions in the form of a FAQ (Frequently
Asked Questions). This information is accurate as of 8/20/07. If
something changes, we will post to the e-tree.

WHAT IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 29. There is no zero
period on the first day of school. First period begins at 8:30 a.m.

WHEN DO STUDENTS GET THEIR SCHEDULES?

Students will get their schedules on their grade level day of Berkeley
High School Registration Week, August 21-24.

WHAT DAY DO STUDENTS GO TO REGISTRATION?

The registration schedule is organized by grade level and the session
is by last name. The exact time is printed on the envelope which
delivered your summer mailing.

Tuesday, August 21: Freshman Orientation/Registration
Wednesday, August 22: 10th Grade (time is on packet envelope)
Thursday, August 23: 11th Grade (time is on packet envelope)
Friday, August 24: 12th Grade (time is on packet envelope)

WHERE? Go to Jacket Gym (new gym) during your scheduled time.

FRESHMAN Orientation

Tuesday, August 21 is Freshman Orientation. No matter what time is
indicated on freshman packet labels, ALL 9TH GRADERS REPORT TO THE
Community Theater AT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR SESSION

10:30 a.m. Last names "Greer - "Mehari"

WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO BRING WITH THEM TO REGISTRATION?

1. $2.00 the for BHS Organizer (a combination student planner and a
25-page guide to Berkeley High and are given to all students).

2. The white "registration materials" envelope with the bar-coded
mailing label and the following forms that were in the mailing
(completed and signed):

-Reduced fee lunch application
-Health Center Registry
-BUSD Student Emergency Card
-ABC HARRELL Photo envelope
-Berkeley High School Student Directory release form

3. Money, if your student wants to buy PE uniform. Berkeley Athletic
Fund will be selling PE clothes during registration. Same prices as
last year: shorts $10, t-shirts $10, sweat pants $15 and sweatshirt
$15.

WHAT DOES THAT TIME ON THE LABEL MEAN?

For Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores, the time on the mailing label of
your "2007-2008 School Registration Info" envelope is a student's
appointment time for a picture ID and yearbook photo. Your student
should be in the picture ID line at the time on your label. EXCEPTION
FOR FRESHMEN: No matter what time is on your student's label, they
should report to the Little Theatre at either 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or
1:00 p.m. (see above for grouping. Instructions for photo-taking will
be given during their group meeting.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT CAN'T MAKE IT TO REGISTRATION DAY?

If it is at all possible, your student should attend on the assigned
day and time. Over the four days of registration, there are over
3,200 students who need to turn in their forms, get their picture
taken, get their student organizer, lockers, textbooks, pick up their
schedule, and, if needed, complete a change of schedule request. If
everyone waits until the day before school it will be chaos. That
said--there will be a makeup date on Tuesday, August 28 from 9 to
noon, and 1 to 3 p.m. (unfortunately, you may expect long lines.) On
August 29th (the first day of school) students can pick up their
schedule starting at 7:30 am.

MY STUDENT CAN'T MAKE IT ON THEIR GRADE LEVEL DAY SO CAN THEY COME ON
ONE OF THE OTHER DAYS DURING REGISTRATION WEEK?

No. If a student can't make it on their grade level registration day,
then they will need to come on the makeup day the week school starts.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT'S SCHEDULE IS WRONG?

No changes are made to schedules on REGISTRATION day. If a schedule
change is necessary, students may submit a "schedule change" form
during registration. More information about the schedule change
process is on the form. The last day to turn in schedule change
requests to the Counseling Office is Friday, August 31.

DO PARENTS NEED TO COME TO REGISTRATION/ORIENTATION?

Parents, it is not necessary to accompany your student(s) to
registration. (Yes, this is true even for parents of entering 9th
graders!) There will be students, staff and parent volunteers there
to answer their questions and guide them through the process.
