sessions for BHS students on Thursday and Friday August 30th and 31st]

The Berkeley High Student Court is seeking future lawyers, activists,
leaders, and visionaries!

The Berkeley High Student Court is looking for new advocates for the
upcoming school year. The Student Court is a program that allows youth
who are about to be suspended an opportunity to have their cases
heard before a jury of their peers.

The advocates of the student court are the backbone of the program,
and are trained by 2 UC Berkeley Law Students in a 7th period elective
class where they can earn leadership credit. These classes take place
on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:15 during both the Fall and
the Spring semesters. Additionally, trials are from 5:00pm to 7:30pm
four times a month.

The Education 001 class at Berkeley City College--part of the Student
Court curriculum--will take place on Monday and Wednesday from 3:20pm
to 5:00pm at BHS. Students will need to apply, get oriented, assessed
and counseled at Berkeley City College, and also get a concurrent
enrollment form completed with a counselor's signature and the
registrar's stamp; the class code is 0678.
We have scheduled two special orientation/assessment/counseling
sessions for BHS students on Thursday and Friday August 30th and 31st.

Students can earn 15 credits per semester for participation in the
Student Court program.

Students interested in law, political activism, social justice, and
the administration of justice are encouraged to apply!

Being an advocate for the BHSC is a great way to develop and improve
skills in public speaking, critical thinking, written and oral
communication, and interpersonal relationships to make a difference in
the lives of others.
