City of Berkeley and BUSD Serves Meals All Summer

In an effort by the City of Berkeley and the Berkeley Unified School
District, three schools in Berkeley will be serving Universal Breakfast
throughout the summer, and four will serve lunch, as well as in four
community centers. The City has been providing this program during the
summer to provide one meal a day for children in South and West Berkeley,
and receive outside funding as long as the program is extended into the
surrounding neighborhoods. The BUSD is offering the same program serving
breakfast at the summer school sites not being served by the City. It will
be a seamless summer feeding program, which means that all children in the
surrounding neighborhoods can eat breakfast or lunch at these sites for
free, and they do not need to be enrolled in our program or our schools to
participate. Like the Universal Breakfast that feeds Berkeley students
during the school year, all children are served, and families do not have
to qualify for the Free and Reduced program. The more participation, the
more children that we serve, the better. This is important information for
the families and neighborhoods of Berkeley. The City program are already
serving lunch every day Monday through Friday (except holidays) until
August 10 when their summer program ends, and the BUSD breakfast program
goes throughout summer school, June 20th to July 18th. Check sites for
mealtimes.
