Teens! Pack reading into your summer plans at
the Berkeley Public Library and take part in a
Dance Dance Revolution!

TEENS! Wherever this summer takes you-São Paolo,
Brazil, or San Pablo, California, or even if you
never leave Berkeley-please send Berkeley Public
Library's Teen Service Department a postcard
every time you finish reading a book. (This
includes books, graphic novels and audiobooks.)
The rules are simple.

Tell them what you've been reading and what you
thought about it. One book per postcard and one
postcard per book, please, but you can send in as
many postcards as you have different books to
report.

Please include: book title, author, and number of
pages, two or three sentences about the book
saying why did you like it (or not)? Who else
might enjoy it? Include your name and address
(mailing address or email) if you want to have
your postcard(s) entered in the drawing for a
grand prize. Send in as many postcards as you
like! All postcards are due by August 17.

Please mail your postcard(s) to: Teen Services, Berkeley Public Library,
2090 Kittredge Street, Berkeley, CA 94704 U

...or drop them off at the Reference Desk at any
Berkeley Public Library. Need a postcard? Ask
at the Reference Desk or at the four branches:
Claremont, North, South and West. The postcards
already have postage and a return address. Or get
a blank one and fill it out right there. Better
yet, send a "real" postcard from where ever you
visit. However, different postage is required if
the card is sent from outside the USA.

Receive recognition prizes-books, gift
certificates, or zip drives for: the first
postcard received, longest book read, shortest
book read, most creative book comment, most
creative artwork on postcard, most books read,
most pages read, postcard sent from the furthest
distance etc. Prizes are courtesy of Alko Office
Supply, Black Oak Books, Cody's, Dark Carnival,
Friends of the Berkeley Public Library, Pendragon
Book store and other local merchants.

Postcard comments will be posted on the library's
Web site or talk with a Teen Services librarian
about webcasting your comments on the library
website. Postcards are due by August 17, 2007, so
start reading and writing us.

DANCING IN THE LIBRARY
Libraries are for more then just reading, and the
Berkeley Public Library's Teen Services
Department proves it with its recent acquisition
of a Play Station 2®, two dance pads and Dance
Dance Revolution, or DDR®, as it is know by
teens. DDR® is a video game that uses a Play
Station 2 and a dance pad. The colorful pad has
sensors in it that keep track of a player's foot
work. It has arrows that mark directions, left,
right, front and back and more. These panels are
pressed using the player's feet, in response to
arrows that appear on the screen in front of the
player. The player tried to move their feet to
the beat of the selected song and scores point
depending on how well their feet follow the
directions on the screen.

Teen Services has scheduled two DDR events for
this summer. The first is Saturday, July 7 from 2
to5 p.m. The second DDR® event will be Tuesday
August 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This is after the
monthly Teen Advisory Group Meeting (TAG) which
allows local teen to give feedback to the
Library. So come for the TAG and stay for the
DDR®. Dancers have the Friends of the Berkeley
Public Library to thank for the equipment.
