College Advisor's Bulletin
Tuesday, June 12, 2007
SAT WORD OF THE DAY: INEPT – clumsy; lacking skill. Nobody as inept as
Homer Simpson should be in charge of safety at a nuclear power plant.
*I will be away from school beginning this Wednesday after lunch to
attend a funeral out of state. Seniors, please stop by to see me
before then and keep in touch. I’d love to hear how you are doing next
year. Current juniors and seniors, I will be checking my e-mail during
the summer when I am in town. If you have questions or concerns,
please feel free to e-mail me.
If you have borrowed books from the College/Career Center, please
return them as soon as possible. They are all marked with
“College/Career Center” on the top and sides. Please check around your
house to see if any are hidden away. Parents/guardians, if you have
college guides or SAT/ACT prep books that your children no longer need,
we would love to have them.

FOR SENIORS
The Potential Graduation List is now posted in the College/Career
Center. Come by to confirm that you are on it. If there is an error,
see Ms. Mellion in D173 at lunch or after school ONLY.
UC campuses strongly recommend that admitted students attend
ORIENTATION 2007 a campus orientation session, where you will find the
answers to many questions about what life will be like at the
University. The schedule provides orientation dates, fees, campus
contact information and more.

FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORMS – These were due on June 1. If you have
not turned this form in to Ms. Mellion in D173, YOU MUST DO SO
IMMEDIATELY so that we can send your final official transcript to the
school you will be attending in the fall. Write “FINAL TRANSCRIPT” in
capital letters across the top of the form and paperclip it to a
stamped business size envelope addressed to the college, with Berkeley
High School (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the return address.
If you are under 18, please remember to have your parent or guardian
sign the request form. All colleges require that students send them a
final transcript confirming their senior year grades. Failure to do so
could result in the college you plan to attend rescinding your
admission.
FOR JUNIORS
*Do you want to practice for the SAT this summer? Princeton Review is
offering two FREE events in Berkeley: July 7 at 9:00 am – practice
test; July 10 at 6:30 pm – strategy session. To register or for more
information, go to www.princereview.com or call 1-800-2REVIEW.
The Junior Summer To Do List and the Senior Profile are now available
in the College/Career Center. Students are required to fill out the
Senior Profile if they are applying to any private schools or
scholarships which require a counselor recommendation or School Report.
I strongly recommend that students complete the profile during the
summer, as the fall semester is extremely busy. There is also a
section of the Senior Profile which parents/guardians must complete.
Thinking of applying to a UC campus? The new Introducing the
University is now available in the College/Career Center. This
information packed-booklet is a great resource on each UC campus,
including majors and admissions, as well as the UC system as a whole.
