*1. Parents: If you are planning your summer vacations, remember
these dates:

Freshman orientation: Tuesday, August 21, 2007

2. Are you interested in affecting the health of our community? Want
to explore a career in health, education, or counseling? Would you
like to earn college credit while in high school, and add a practical
internship to your resume? Berkeley City College is offering a
two-semester class just for you! Health Ed 1, "Exploring Health
Issues" will examine the major health problems that affect our
community, with a focus on how health education on empower people
affected by those health issues. Next semester, a Health issues field
studies class will send you in a team to become a health mentor in the
after-school programs at local elementary and middle schools or a
homeless family shelter. Sign up now by enrolling in Berkeley City
College and filling out the concurrent enrollment form for Health
Education 1. Your counselor has the forms and information.

3. Seniors! Overdue books? Any overdue books must be turned in
immediately. You will not be able to pick up your Prom tickets if you
do not return the books. This is an urgent matter if you plan on
going to the senior ball.
4. Would you like to be an announcer for the student daily bulletin
next school year? If so, tryouts will take place, Wednesday, May 30th
at 7:30 am on the football field. Please wear gym clothes for this
audition. We will explain when you arrive.
5. The Berkeley High Student Court is looking for advocates for next
year. Get 5 credits per semester, meet cool people, have fun, and
make a difference. Make next year the year that you leave your mark
in a positive way. Apply for Student Court by going to H104. Ask for
Mr. Luu!
6. Summer School applications are available in the Counseling Office
and at the Parent Volunteer Desk in the Administration office.
Priority Registration ends May 25. Please see your counselor and sign
up ASAP.
7. MathWorks Coordinators needed at Willard Middle School.This will
satisfy community service, tutoring hours, leadership and provide
recommendations.

Clubs
1. Are you curious about the college application process! Do you
want, to learn about how to plan for college during your summer? Come
thru to the Youth Together meeting on Thursday to find out. We will
have a professional college admission advisor at our meeting. We will
meet in A205 at 3:30 pm on Thursday.
Sports
1. Attention all BHS athletes, sign up to be a host for the 1st Annual
Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 2nd. We need you to be there
from 3:00 - 7:00 pm. 46 athletes will be inducted including many
current and professional athletes and Berkeley High and collegiate
record holders. It's a great opportunity to witness BHS history! Sign
up on the Athletic office door. Community service credit will be
offered! A lunchtime meeting for those who sign up will be held
Thursday in the Donahue Gym.
2. All students interested in running cross country next fall please
to an informational meeting Wednesday, May 30th at lunch in H307 or
contact Goodrich in H307.
*3. Attention All BHS Swimmers: The BHS Swim team awards banquet is
going to be this Thursday night, May 31st at the BHS Food Court. All
are welcome! Come get your league medals, certificates and other
awards. Stop by the swimming pool all this week to see what you need
to bring. See ya there! Dinner time is at 6:00 pm.
4. Attention all BHS athletes: You must turn I your uniforms sand
equipment to the Athletic Office ASAP. Those who owe will not be
allowed to pick up prom tickets, will receive an F on their Spring
report card, and won't be allowed to pick up a diploma. Please turn
in your gear now! A current debt list will be posted on the Athletic
Office ticket window.
5. The popular student athlete luncheon is coming! The Berkeley
Athletic Fund sponsored lunch for all athletes who earned a 3.5 or
better during his or her season or whose GPA improved by .5 or better
during the season, will be awarded a free Barbeque Club lunch. Check
the posters located in the pool windows for your name and the time and
location, and the lunch is on us!

Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors- Canon Jones Memorial Scholarship- students must have been
in either the Berkeley Boosters/Police Activities league, CAS at
Berkeley High or a member of the Southside Church of Christ in
Richmond and accepted at a four year college or university. Two
scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded and are renewable.
Recommendations and essays required. Applications available in D221.
Deadline: June 22.
2. June 1 - Last day for students to turn in a Transcript Request Form
to Ms. Mellion in D173 so that we can send an official transcript to
the school you will be attending in the fall. Write "FINAL
TRANSCRIPT" in capital letters across the top of the form and paper
clip it to a stamped business size envelope addressed to the college,
with Berkeley High School (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the
return address. If you are under 18, please remember to have your
parent or guardian sign the request form. All colleges require that
students send them a final transcript confirming their senior year
grades.
3. For Juniors- if you haven't yet signed up for an appointment with
your College Advisor, it's not too late! There are now many
appointment slots available. Come to the college/Career Center to
sign up. If your last name begins with A-La, sign up with Ms. Abrams,
for Le- Z, sign up with Mr. Saraceno. We both also have shorter
drop-in appointments every day at lunch and after school for all
juniors and seniors.
Sales
1. Yearbooks are going fast, get yours now! Yearbooks will be on sale
during lunch, Tuesday - Thursdays on the Community Theater steps until
the end of the month. Cost is $80, checks and cash only.
2. BART tickets orders will be taken on May 31st. Last orders for the
year. Sales are at lunchtime and after-school until 3:30 pm only.
Cash please, no checks!
Jobs
1. Prom is expensive, but here is an easy way to make cash fast: I am
looking for a strong High School student to help with heavy
lifting/hauling job. This is a one time only job, preferably next
week. Pays $$$ Use of a truck is recommended, but not required.

2. Roughing it Day Camp in Lafayette is looking for junior counselors
(students entering grades 11 or 12 in the fall) for volunteer
positions as well as paid positions for graduating seniors.
Transportation is provided. All staff will be trained during week of
June 18-23. Session 1: June 25-July 20; Session 2: July 23-August 17.

3. Recreation jobs- the City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for
students working with children of all ages in various recreation
settings - summer and year round employment available. Applicants
must be at least 16 years old. Apply at the El Cerrito Community
