College Advisor's Bulletin
Monday, May 21, 2007

SAT WORD OF THE DAY: ATTRITION - A rubbing away or wearing down by
friction; stress. A gradual, natural reduction in membership or
personnel. The union agreed to the company's cost-cutting measure
to reduce the number of employees by attrition, rather than laying off
any employees who did not want to leave.

FOR SENIORS
*Senior Awards Ceremony rehearsal - students who signed up for the

third period on Tuesday, May 22. This rehearsal is mandatory unless
your class is on a field trip and you have a signed note from your
teacher. All participants should also report to the Community Theater
by 6:00 pm for the ceremony itself. If you have any questions, please
speak with Ms. Harris or Ms. Abrams in the College/Career Center.

May 25 - Last day to turn in the Senior Exit Report in D221. The
information contained in these reports is very important so that we
can have accurate data of the future plans of all seniors and assess
how Berkeley High is doing in college admissions. No information on
an individual student will be shared without the student's permission.
If you want your future plans listed in the senior edition of the
Jacket, you must let us know on the form.

June 1 - Last day for students to turn in a Transcript Request Form to
Ms. Mellion in D173 so that we can send an official transcript to the
school you will be attending in the fall. Write "FINAL TRANSCRIPT" in
capital letters across the top of the form and paperclip it to a
stamped business size envelope addressed to the college, with Berkeley
High School (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley 94704) as the return address.
If you are under 18, please remember to have your parent or guardian
sign the request form. All colleges require that students send them a
final transcript confirming their senior year grades.

If you are getting below a C in any of your classes and are planning
to attend a four year college in the fall, you MUST contact the
college to discuss this. All colleges will receive a copy of your
final transcript. By contacting the college and discussing your
options with them, you may be able to prevent your admission from
being rescinded. Please see me or Mr. Saraceno if you would like to
discuss your grades or what to say to the college.

The following Cal State campuses are still accepting applications:
Cal Maritime, Bakersfield, Chico (except nursing and recording arts),
Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Fullerton (computer science and engineering
only), Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, Northridge, Sacramento, San
Bernardino, Stanislaus, San Jose, and Sonoma (except interdisciplinary
studies, liberal studies and pre-nursing majors).

be seniors during the 2007-08 academic year who are U.S. citizens or
permanent residents may apply. Awards range from $500 to $10,000.
