Executive Director

BERKELEY, CA.  The Berkeley Public Education Foundation is a highly
respected, community-supported  nonprofit organization which provides
teachers and students in the Berkeley public schools with the tools
and resources they need to succeed. Founded in 1983, in response to
the schools' urgent need for funding, BPEF has grown steadily, and
today has a budget of over $500,000, three staff members, a 16-member
Board and several well-established volunteer and grant programs. The
goal of BPEF is to raise community awareness of, and to support
investment in, Berkeley's vibrant and innovative public school system
and education programs. 

BPEF is seeking an Executive Director who is both an experienced and
energetic nonprofit manager and successful fundraiser and who will
promote sustained growth of BPEF's fundraising activities, donor base,
grants programs, and public awareness of BPEF's importance to
Berkeley's public schools, teachers and students.

The following priorities have been identified for the fiscal year
beginning July 2007:
Expand fundraising, including placing greater emphasis on majors
donors; Build the capacity of the organization to keep pace with
growing needs of BUSD students, teachers, parents, and administrators;
Support staff/program integration, team building and communication;
Revisit the existing strategic plan.

Qualifications:
Proven track record in fundraising and grant writing; Excellent
management skills; Ability to communicate enthusiastically with
parents, teachers, administrators, stakeholders and funders in person
and through the BPEF website; Experience in financial and/or business
management of a budget of $500,000 or larger; Ability to maintain
local community and political ties and establish new ones; Capability
to motivate staff to maintain a high level of performance, good morale
and effective use of their talents; Positive experience in working
closely with a nonprofit board of directors and professional staff;
and BA/BS degree.

Start
Date: August/September, 2007
Compensation: Based on experience. While this is a full-time exempt
position, there is some flexibility to negotiate a part-time schedule.
