STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. Today is a late start day, Wednesday, May 2, 2007.  Students are to start
school at 10 AM.

*2. Congratulations to the Berkeley High school Varsity and Junior Varsity
Chess teams for placing 5th and 4th, respectively, in the California
State Chess Championships in San Mateo on April 28th and 29th.
The following members represented BHS:  Mason Eastman, Elliott Jardin,
Andrew Yun, Geoff Zoehfeld, Keith Moffatt, Lucien Kahn, Ethan Kimball,
Francis Langbein, Anthony Granados, Jacob Harris, Jonah Trotz-Liboff,
Micharl Stock-Matthews, Bryan Farb, Gavin Saldanha, Ben Gould, Chris Lamb,
and Ben Hannus.  Congratulations Jackets!


Clubs

*1. Earphone English- If you are going on the field trip today, come to C116
at the very beginning of lunch with your field trip form, and we will go
immediately.  We'll come back at the end of 4th period.

2. CSF members:  Do you want to have a leadership position in the Berkeley
High chapter of CSF next year?  Applications for CSF President,
Vice-President, Secretary and Treasury are now available at Edna Harris'
desk in D221.  Applications due Friday, May 4th in D221.

3. Are you a leader or want to be?  Join Student Government.  The
application deadline has been extended to May 9th.  There will be an
informational meeting Friday, May 4th in Conference Room B at lunch.
Pick up an application in D148.

4. Only two more weeks to get AP Tutoring credits/ community service hours
through Mathworks at Willard Middle School.  Join us on Mondays and
Thursdays from 3-4.  Contact Sophie Meryash.


Sports

1. Have you ever seen a Crew race?  Do you know how competitive rowing
works?  The last regular Berkeley High Crew race of the year will be
at home on Sunday, May 6.  Both the men and women have had an
exceptional rowing season bringing home first and second place at
every race this season.  Come see the crew races and help cheer on the
Jackets as they race against NorCal rowing club.  River City Rowing
Club, Stockton Rowing Club, Serra High School, JLAC and Palo Alto
Rowing Club.  Races are from 8 am to 1pm at the Jack London Aquatic

Senior / Junior Section

1. College visits to Berkeley High - Sign up in D221 to attend college
presentations.  You must also pick up an authorization form for your
teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Visits: Wednesday, May 2, 10:45 (2nd period during late start day) in
D221- Canterbury University in New Zealand.  Students must sign up in D221
to attend.

2. Heads up next year's Juniors and Seniors.   If you have 6th period free
and want college recommendations, leadership and community service become
a Willard Mathworks Coordinator.    Two days a week from 3-4.  Call Karen
Meryash at 303-3048.

3. Seniors - Did you file your FAFSA by March 2nd, list a California
college on the FAFSA and turn in a gold GPA Information Release Form
to Ms. Mellion or your counselor or College Advisor by March 2nd?  If
you did, but have not received a letter from the Cal Grant agency or
have been told that they did not receive your GPA, please see Ms.
Abrams or Mr. Saraceno in D221 immediately.


Events/ Performance

*1. Hair: Beads: Love: Freedom: Happiness and Hair, lots of hair.  Come see
"Hair," your tribal love Rock Musical opening Friday, May 4th and blowing
your mind until May 12th.  Opens Friday night.  Please come see this
dynamic performance. Tickets on sale at box office before performances.
May 4, 5, 11,12 at 8pm, May 6th at 2pm
$7.00 for teachers, students and seniors.... Little Theater at Berkeley
High...

2. Come check out slamming poetry this week at UC Berkeley, Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays at 7 pm in Lipman Room (8th floor of Barrows ).
This is a FREE Event.

3.  Interested in auditioning for Youth Musical Theater Company's fall
production of MAN OF LA MANCHA?  Come to an information meeting on
Tuesday, May 8th, 7:00-8:30 PM or Wednesday, May 9th from 4:30-6:00 PM
in the Band Room (A-building).

4. Actors needed!  Do you want to be in a student run film?  Come to C400
today and tomorrow at lunch to audition.


Sales

1. Yearbooks are going fast get yours now! Beginning May 8th yearbooks
will be on sale during lunch, Tuesday - Thursdays on the Community Theater
steps until the end of the month cost is $80.  Checks and cash only.



Jobs

1. Small law office in Emeryville is seeking a student, preferably a
senior, for part time filing work.  Must be reliable, personable,
conscientious and pay close attention to detail, have good verbal
communication and available a minimum of two days per week four to
five hours per day.  Pays $9 per hour, contact Judy at 510-595-7900.

2. Social Security Administration in Richmond is hiring 10 or more
students for general office work.  Applications available in D221.
Students from low income families will receive priority in hiring.
Students must be 16 years old with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

3. Recreation jobs- the City of El Cerrito has immediate openings for
students working with children of all ages in various recreation settings-
summer and year round employment available.  Applicants must be at least
16 years old.  Apply at the El Cerrito Community Center , 7007 Moeser
