College Advisor's Bulletin

SAT WORD OF THE DAY:   SCINTILLA – a very small amount; an iota or 
trace. Jamillah had not a scintilla of doubt that she would score well 
on the SAT because she had completed the SAT Question of the Day every 
day for months.

Mr. Saraceno, Ms. Harris and I wish you all an enjoyable and safe 
spring break.  Seniors, if you have questions or concerns, I will be 
able to respond to your e-mails beginning on April 7th.

FOR ALL GRADES
Paid Internship Opportunities – Metropolitan Transportation Commission 
High School Summer Internship Program.  Applicants must be at least 16 
years old with at least a 2.8 GPA (if below 2.8, must submit two 
letters of recommendation).  Application and lists of job sites are 
available at www.mtc.ca.gov .  Applications are also available in D221. 
You may also contact the MTC High School Coordinator at 817-5807.

Summer Day Camp Jobs – Counselor in Training (completed grade 9, 10 or 
11, a volunteer position) and Junior Counselor (completed grade 10, 11 
or 12, may receive a weekly stipend).  Work with campers ages 5-14.  
Students can work for 4, 6 or 8 weeks from June 18-August 24, 
Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm.  Apply online at the UC Berkeley Department of 
Recreational Sports, www.oski.org or call 643-2477.

Aspire Education Project offers SAT and ACT practice tests at Piedmont 
High School, Room 39 at 9:00 am.  These are generally held one week 
before the actual test.  Test dates are on Saturdays: April 7, May 26, 
and June 2 and Sunday, April 29 and students may take either test on

(510) 658-7500.  Cost is $20 payable at the time of the test.

Building Diversity in Science is sponsoring the Scientific Empowerment 
Movement.  This free event will bring together minority scientists, 
physicians, professionals and entertainers to empower youth and young 
adults and promote diversity in the sciences.  April 14 at the Mission 
Bay Campus of UC San Francisco.  Breakfast and lunch is included.

FOR JUNIORS
Students who have not yet signed up for an appointment with their 
College Advisor may sign up beginning Monday, April 9 at 8:00 am.  The 
appointment sign-up sheets will continue to be available for the rest 
of the semester.  However, the sooner you sign up, the sooner you will 
have your meeting.  Don’t delay!

People's Test Preparation Service workshop on Personal Statements 
(application essays) will be held on Saturday, April 7 from 3-4:30 pm 
at 235 Dwinelle Hall on the UC Berkeley campus.  For more information,

FOR SENIORS
SAT/ACT TEST DATES – April 3 is the regular registration deadline for 
the May 5 SAT test.  Register at www.collegeboard.com. May 4 is the 
regular registration deadline for the June 9 ACT test.  Register at 
www.act.org.

SCHOLARSHIPS
SENIORS – spring break is a great time to fill out scholarship 
applications.  Most of you will have received your financial aid 
packages and can know how much the loan amount is.  Scholarships can 
help you reduce the amount of your loans.  Come by the College/Career 
Center to pick up a few applications before it is too late.
