1. Tuesday, Feb. 27 is Information Night for ALL Incoming 9th grade
students and their families.  The meeting starts at 7 pm and is held
in the Berkeley Community Theater. This meeting offers an overview of
the programs and small schools.  It night is an Important First Step
for families planning on coming to BHS next year. 

2. Thursday, March 8 is Berkeley High School Curriculum Night for
CURRENT 9TH, 10TH AND 11TH GRADE families. 

3. Following the March 8 Curriculum Night for the currently enrolled
BHS students there will be three Curriculum Nights--one each at the
three BUSD middle schools for parents of current 8th graders:
King, Tuesday, March 6
Willard, Wednesday, March 7
Longfellow,  March 15

These night meetings, designed for parents/guardians are an invaluable
opportunity for parents to meet bhs counselors and administrators.
Counselors and Administrators will meet with students during the day
to review program choices. The following topics will be covered.  

.	9th grade curriculums (school/program specific) 
.	BHS graduation requirements
.	Four-Year College and University eligibility requirements
.	Importance of 9th Grade for College Eligibility
.	School/Program/Course Selection Process
.	Lottery and Placement process 
.	Math and World Language sequences 
.	Science progressions
.	Student Support Services, including tutoring
.	Parent Access 
.	And much much more.including Q & A

4. For Parents and students of current 8th graders from Private
Schools there will be two Curriculum/ Course Selection nights Tuesday,
March 27 (Student last names beginning A-L) or on Wednesday, April 18
(last names M-Z). Students and parent/guardians are required to attend
the private school curriculum evenings together as students will be
completing paperwork for program and course selection at these
meetings. 

Current 9th grade (or above) families who are coming to BHS as 10th,
11th or 12th graders will not attend these two meetings.  There will
be small group meetings scheduled at another time for these families.


5.  In addition to the above meetings incoming families should be
aware of two events: 
	
a.  Berkeley High School Jazz Lab Band Auditions of Feb. 27 at 2:15
(3:15 for 8th graders) for trumpets, trombones and rhythm. March 1 at
2:15 (3:15 for 8th graders) for saxophones.
	
b. The Berkeley High School Math Department will conduct Honors
testing for the 07/08 school year in April.  The tentative dates for
the testing are 4/10, 4/12, 4/24 and 4/26.  To sign up for an honors
test, e-mail Mr. Weitz at mweitz at berkeley.k12.ca.us. Type in the
subject line of the e-mail the name of the student, the current grade,
the type of test desired and the desired date.
