[BHS etree] JAZZ: Combos take 1st and 2nd at Folsom!

All,
Congratulations to the BHS Jazz Combos who placed First and Second in
the Combo Division competition at the Folsom Jazz Festival this past
weekend! The Sextet (Jereme Altenberg, Ari Chersky, Akeem Hawkins,
Forrest Mitchell, Galen Odell-Smedley, Samora Pinderhughes) won First
Place and the Quintet (Mariel Austin, Chase Jackson, Nathan
Kersey-Wilson, David McFarlane, Nick Murphy) won Second Place. They
were competing with 20 other combos.

Ari and Samora got outstanding performance awards for the sextet
performance and Mariel, Chase, Nathan, David and Nick all got
outstanding performance awards for the quintet performance.

Also, kudos to Forrest Mitchell, who did a great job subbing for Evan
Hughes in the sextet (he was auditioning at UCLA.)

Additionally, the Ensemble placed 3rd in the AAAA division and the Lab
Band placed 9th in the AAA division, both turning in fine performances
while competing with many other excellent big bands. Kai Fugioka,
Akeem Hawkins, David McFarland and Samora Pinderhughes won individual
awards for their performances with the Ensemble and Forrest Mitchell
and Michael Stock-Matthews won individual awards for their
performances with the Lab Band.
