*1. Finals begin Wednesday, January 24th. Schedule will be posted tomorrow.

important.
3. Satisfy those nagging AP/Honors Math hours and
provide Community Service. Math Works needs you!
Help Willard Middle School students succeed.
Volunteer Tutoring Hours Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 3-4 pm at Willard (2425 Stuart St. near
Telegraph).
*4. JOBS: Café Rouge, 1782 Fourth Street,
Berkeley, is looking to hire one or two students.
The openings are: Friday evening from 6:00 - 9:30
pm as a food runner, Saturday, noon -3:30pm as a
busser and Sunday, noon-4:00pm as a food runner.
No experience necessary. Bring a resume
including information on the high school
activities in which you participated or any work
experience, as well as, an unofficial transcript
to the restaurant, addressed to Kip.
5. Students! January Finals are just around the corner. Make these
last few weeks count and get help where you need it:

Clubs
1. Attention CSF Participants: Don't forget, 3
hours of community service and $15 of fundraising
are due in D221 by Wednesday, January 24th. If
you have any questions, contact Natalie Gaber at

Sports
1. Attention all students who want to go out for Spring sports:
Baseball, Softball, Badminton, Track and Field, Swimming and Diving,
Crew, Boys tennis, Boys Volleyball, or Boys golf. You must turn in a
complete Athletic packet to your coach before the first you can try
out. If you haven't taken a physical within the last 9 months, you
must schedule an appointment with your doctor or the health center
now. You cannot tryout without having a physical and a complete
packet. The first day of Spring season is Monday, February 5th.
2. BHS Boys Lacrosse: Come check out "the fastest game on two feet," a
grueling test of speed and stamina. Lacrosse is THE original American
sport, played originally by North American Indians as early as the 15th
century. Captain's Conditioning: 3:30 pm at the field,
January 29- February 2. Team Try-outs: exact location and time to be
announced, February 5-15.
3. Girls Softball Conditioning has begun. Week
of Finals: Tuesday 3:45-5:00 pm and Wed/Fri 1:30
- 2:30pm. The last week of conditioning will be
Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday 3:45-5:00pm. Tryouts
will begin February 5 at 4:00-till Dark.
4. All boys interested in going out for the golf
team this should come to an informational meeting
on Wednesday, January 31st at 3:30 pm in the
Athletic Office. Completed athletic packets may
be turned in at that time. If you plan on going
out of golf, please be sure to have a valid
physical and complete packet to turn in by the
Feb. 5th start of season.
5. All boys interested in going out for the
volleyball team this spring should attend a
meeting on Tuesday, January 22 at lunch in the
Donahue Gym lobby. Completed athletic packets
may be turned in at that time.
6. Anyone interested in playing Badminton for BHS
should attend a meeting on Tuesday, January 22 at
3:30pm on the turf bleachers. Meet the new coach
and turn in completed athletic packets.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Pre-order forms for cap and gowns are
available in room D-148 on a first come, first
serve basis. Achievers will be at BHS again this
month to take orders on January 31st. That day
will be the last day to turn in pre-registration
forms and receive the pre-order discount. Caps
and gowns will be available later in the year,
but at a slightly higher rate. Stop by the
Office of Student Activities to receive a
pre-order form before they are gone!
2. Black College Awareness Fair, Saturday, February 3, 10-2:00 pm. DeAnza
Community College Gymnasium, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.
Admission is free. Representatives from over 20 HBCU's, financial aid and
admissions presentations and panel discussion from HBCU graduates. RSVP

3. For Seniors: Financial Aid Workshops- We will be holding workshops on
filling out the FAFSA both before and after school. All workshops will be
held in the BHS Library. Please sign up in D221 so that we make sure that
we have enough computers for everyone. Bring with you completed 2006 tax
returns and or information on income for you and your parents. This
information will not shared with anyone. In order to best prepare for the
workshop, pick up a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet in D221 prior to the
workshop. Then you can fill out the requested information and know what
your questions are. The dates for the workshops are:

4. Tuesday, February 13- Cash for College workshop will held at 6:30 pm in
the BHS Library. At the workshop, held in both
English and Spanish, you will be able to get
help filling out the FAFSA. One participant in the workshop who completes
the FAFSA and the Cal Grant form by March 2 will be awarded a $1,000
scholarship. For additional cash for College workshops at other locations

the "Workshops" tab.
5. Scholarships- There are many new scholarships
available in D221. Check out the Scholarship Box
and apply for free money.
6. Scholarships: Community NETwork scholarship- Open to African
American seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who plan to attend a two or
four year college in the fall or an accredited business school.
Minimum of $1,000 will be awarded. Deadline: February 23.
Applications available in D221.
*7. Alpha Kappa Alpha- Open to African and
African American seniors with a minimum
unweighted GPA of 2.5 who have recent community
involvement and plans to attend a two or four
year college immediately after graduation.
Applications available in D221. $1,000
scholarship. Deadline: April 30.
*8. Unlocking Doors: A Scholarship for Women-
female high school senior whose parent/guardian
's income does not exceed $45,000 who will be the
first in their family to attend a four year
college and who is a US citizen or legal
resident. Deadline: March 31. $1,000
scholarship. Applications are available in the
College Career Center or at www.unlockingdoors.org
*9. Scholar Athlete Milk Moustache of the Year -
Open to seniors. Judging is based on academic
performance, athletic excellence, leadership,
community service and milk experience.
Applications are available at www.bodybymilk.com.
Deadline: March 9. Each of the 25 winners will
receive a $7,500 scholarship.
*10. Ronald McDonald House of Charity- Open to
Seniors planning to attend two or four year
college or vocational/technical school. Must be
legal US residents. Scholarships available for
students who have at least one parent of
Asian-Pacific heritage. A separate scholarship
is open to students of all backgrounds. Numerous
scholarships of at least $1,000 are available.
Applications available in D221 and at
www.rmhc.org. Deadline: February 15.
11. PSAT scores may be picked up any day in D221
at lunchtime or after school from 3:15 to 4:00 pm.
12. FOR SENIORS- Standard CAL GRANTS - Cal Grants
are free money from the state of California based
on the student's GPA and family income. The
money may be used at any accredited California
college, public or private. Applying for the Cal
Grant is very easy-just fill out the Cal Grant
Information Release Form, available in D173 and
D221. This is a very simple form which takes
less than 5 minutes to complete. Deadline to
turn in the form is January 30.
13. PG&E Employees Scholarship- open to all
graduating seniors whose aren't/guardian is a
PG&E customer with a minimum unweighted GPA of
3.5 and a minimum SAT score of 1500 or comparable
ACT score who is actively involved in outside
activities. At least ten scholarships of $2,000
each. Deadline: March 1. Applications available
in D221.
Events/ Performance
1. Sign up for Auditions for "HAIR" the spring
musical. Sign up now, 1st floor A- building.
Auditions are February 5th and 6th.
SALES
1. Winterball tickets are still available! Come
out during lunch and buy your tickets. All
students who play on any sports team here at BHS
can purchase tickets at a discount price in D148.
2. BART ticket order will be January 22nd and 23rd at lunchtime in D224.
3. If your club wants a page in the yearbook,
come to H102 during 7th period to claim your
page. Quarter, half, and full pages are being
sold. Please come as soon as possible. They're
going fast!
4. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please
purchase your yearbooks in H102 each day.
Financial Assistance is also available to those
who qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to
apply.
