[BHS etree] SUPT: BUSD Board Update of interest on Attendance

At the board meeting on December 13th, 2006 the Board discussed the
following items of items of interest to the Berkeley High Community:

1. The Board received information the Average Daily Attendance Summaries.
Student enrollment for October 2006 totaled 8,924, with an absence rate of
6.8%.  This cost the District $323,667 (in lost revenue) in projected ADA,
compared to an absence rate of 5.03%, with a loss of $239,647 in September.

Each student absence results in $31.86 per day in lost revenue for the
District. Since 1997, school districts can no longer claim any absences,
including excused absences, for apportionment attendance. The Board believes
that regular attendance plays an important role in student achievement. **

All Board meetings are broadcast live on Berkeley Community Media Cable
Channel 33 and KPFB Radio 89.3, and re-broadcasted on channel 33 the
following Thursday morning at 9AM and on Sunday December 17,
2006 at 2PM.
