STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. PSAT SCORES have arrived - If you took the PSAT in October, you can
pick up your scores in the College/Career Center at lunch and from
3:15 to 4:00 pm ONLY!  You will not be able to pick them up at any
other time.

2. The next trial of the Berkeley High Student court will be taking
place on Tuesday, December 19th, at 5:00 pm in the Berkeley City
Council Chambers.  It is a great opportunity to earn community service
credit, to earn extra credit for certain teachers, and most
importantly to put student discipline in the hands of students.  The
city Council Chambers is the green-domed building at the corner of MLK
and Allston, across the street from the H building.  Snacks will be
served.

3. Here is the health Fact of the Week, brought to you by the BHS
Health Center Youth Advisory Board.  "10,000 teens in the US are
infected with an STD each day, or one teen every 8 seconds."  Come
today to get tested for STDS in the Health center, it's free and
confidential.

4. Attention Harry Potter fans!  Do you have a theory about what will
happen in the seventh and final Harry Potter book?  Submit your ideas,
in 150 words or less, to Ms. Goldstein-Erickson and Mr. Brodie in the
library.  We will award prizes, and plan to forward your entries to
Scholastic, publisher of Harry Potter.  Students and staff are all
eligible to participate.

5. Young Artist Award Competition 2007 for piano, voice and orchestral
instruments.  Over $1700 in prizes.  Entrant must be a resident of
Alameda or contra Costa County.  $25 application fee.  Applications
available in D221 or call Diane Barton-Brown at 925-932-4710. No phone
calls after 9 pm. Deadline: March 27.

Clubs

*1. Like skiing or snowboarding?  Come join the Snow Sports club!  We
discuss all forms or snow sports, and we might be qualified to go on a
snow trip in February.  Come to G204 at lunch on Thursday, December
21st.

Sports

*1. Good luck to the Varsity Girls Basketball team next week.  They'll
be competing in the Nike tournament in Phoenix.  The boys basketball
team is playing in the Yuba City tourney this weekend.  Good luck to
both teams.

*2. Attention to all BHS swimmers and divers for 2007.  There will be
a short informational meeting on Wednesday, December 20th at lunchtime
at the swimming pool bleachers.  Come and get the scoop on the
upcoming season and pick up your forms.  All interested potential
swimmers and divers are invited to attend.

*3.	Come out at lunch on Thursday 12/21 in G210 and learn more
about Rugby and our upcoming season.

Senior / Junior Section

*1. Seniors still working on your essays?  Essay readers will be here
to help you next week, during the following times:  
Monday, December 18: 8am to 9am and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm 
Tuesday, December 19:  2:30 to 3:30 pm 
Wednesday, December 20: 2:30 to 3:30 pm

*2. Scholarship for Juniors and Seniors - Asian Pacific Fund open to
students who are of Filipino heritage or who are children of farm
workers regardless of ethnic background.  Scholarships range in value
from $1500 to $5000, some of which are renewable.  Check out the
Banatao Filipino American Scholarship.  Applications available in D221

*3. Seniors - Scholarships for Latino students-this website has a long

4. For all Students -  Presentation on College of Alameda Private
Pilot Ground School class - Tuesday, December 19, 9:30 am in D221.
Alameda College is offering a class, free to high school students,
where you will learn how you can become a pilot and acquire private
pilot ground school skills.  This class does not offer flying lessons,
but after you complete the class you will have the opportunity to take
the FAA Private Pilot Aeronautical Knowledge test and you will earn 4
college credits.  Classes held on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 10:00 pm,
beginning January 17.  Come to the presentation to learn more!  Sign
up in D221.

5. For Juniors - interested in working in Washington D.C. as a Page
next semester? Congresswoman Barbara Lee has a position available for
a high school junior, at least 16 years age, with minimum 3.0 GPA who
would like to be a congressional page/intern in Washington DC.  The
term will be January - June 2007.  School and board is provided.  If

6. Seniors - If you have not yet met with your College/Career Advisor
(Ms. Abrams: last names beginning with A-Lej and CAS students; Mr.
Saraceno: Lek-Z and CPA students), we would like to meet with you to
discuss your future plans and let you know what options you have,
whether it be 2 or 4 year college or anything else.  Sign up in D221
for an appointment this week.

7. Summer Opportunities for all Students:  Summer Science and
Engineering program for High School Young women entering grades 9-12
in fall  2007, July 1-28, at Smith College.  For more information, go

8. University of San Andrews, Creative Writing and Scottish Studies
pre-college experience.  Open to students who have at least completed
10th grade.  Four week program taught by U of St. Andrews faculty.

Events/ Performance

1. The Jacket is looking for 3 new columnists for the 2nd semester. If

request an application or stop by G105.  Completed applications are
due by January 12.  If you have any questions send an email to

2. The cold winter days are fast approaching.  If you have extra warm
clothes lying around, like coats, jackets, sweaters, and hats, please
consider donating them to the jacket drive.  All donations should be
dropped off in G105 by Tuesday, December 19.  If you have any

SALES

1. BART Tickets for December are here.  Pick them up at lunchtime in
room D224.

2. Support the Junior class!  Come buy Holiday grams for $1.00, sold
at the Community theatre from 12/15 - 12/20.  Delivered on 12/21.

3. If your club wants a page in the yearbook, come to H102 during 7th
period to claim your page.  Quarter, half, and full pages are being
sold. Please come as soon as possible.

4. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.
