STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1. Attention Harry Potter fans!  Do you have a theory about what will
happen in the seventh and final Harry Potter book?  Submit your ideas,
in 150 words or less, to Ms. Goldstein-Erickson and Mr. Brodie in the
library.  We will award prizes, and plan to forward your entries to
Scholastic, publisher of Harry Potter, Students and staff are all
eligible to participate.

2. Young Artist Award Competition 2007 for piano, voice and orchestral
instruments.  Over $1700 in prizes.  Entrant must be a resident of
Alameda or contra Costa County.  $25 application fee.  Applications
available in
D221 or call Diane Barton-Brown at 925-932-4710. No phone calls after
9 pm.
Deadline: March 27.

3. Tutoring:  After school Math Tutoring Program, H109 on Tuesdays and
Thursdays 3:15- 4:30 pm focusing on Algebra and Geometry.  New AP
Biology
Tutorial:  The science department will operate an after school
tutorial starting Wednesday, December 6th.  Mr. Fong will answer
questions and help facilitate student study groups most Wednesdays
from 4:30-5:30 pm in room G305.  Please note two exceptions: December
13 moved to December 14th and Thursday, January 17th moved to January
18th from 4:30- 5:30 pm in room G305.

4. JOBS: LeConte Elementary school is looking for student volunteers
on December 16 from 11-4 to help take care of young children while
their parents engage in fundraising for the school.  To volunteer,
call Barbara Stever at 548-5308.

5. JOBS: The Museum of Children's Art is looking for High School age
teens to assist in our Winter Art Camp.  Teens must be interested in
working with younger children in art.  They must be flexible, good
humored, and willing to help with clean up, prep jobs and
supervising/assisting with children ages 5-12.  Camp operates from 8am
- 6pm, Tuesday - Friday, December 26-29 and January 2-5.  For more

Clubs

1. Condom club!  Brought to you by PASSHEN: Peers Advocating Safety
and Sexual health now.  Come learn the facts about HIV, STDs and how
to be safe, Wednesday, December 13th during lunch in H114.  You must
attend the entire time to get a condom club sticker on your ID.  Don't
forget to bring your lunch and your student ID.

Sports

*1. The Berkeley Boys Soccer team takes on Richmond on Friday 12/15 on
the BHS turf.  JV: 4:30/ Varsity 6:00.  This is a change from the
original schedule which had BHS at Richmond on Thursday 12/14.  Come
on out and support your jackets!

Senior / Junior Section

1. Two full scholarships are being offered to bay Area low income
minority students to attend the Woolman Semester.  The Woolman
Semester offers juniors, seniors, and post-grads a semester in the
Sierra Foothills taking action-oriented courses focused on the studies
of peace, justice, and environmental sustainability, while earning
full high school credit (in UC approved college prep classes.)
Applications are due by December 15th.  Contact Kelly Runyan at

the program, regular financial aid and/ or the two full scholarships.

2. Scholarship for Juniors--Discover Card Tribune Award
Program--Students with a minimum cumulative GPA for 9th and 10th
grades of 2.75, who demonstrated leadership, are actively contributing
to their communities and have experienced and overcome a significant
obstacle are eligible.  Apply at www.discovercard.com/tribute Postmark
deadline: January 31.  More information available in the
College/Career Center.

3. CAL STATE APPLICATIONS- many CAL State campuses are still accepting
applications.  They are: Cal Maritime, Bakersfield, Channel Islands,
Chico, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Fresno, Fullerton (only to Computer
Science and Engineering majors), Los Angeles, Monterey Bay,
Northridge, Sacramento., San Bernadino, Stanilaus, Humboldt, San
Francisco, San Jose, Sonoma.  If you need help with your applications,
see Ms. Abrams or Mr. Saraceno in D221.

4. Italian Catholic Federation Scholarship - Open to Catholic
graduating seniors of Italian descent who have at least a 3.2 GPA.
Applications available in D221 or by calling 1-888-423-1924.
Deadline March 15.  $400 scholarship.

5. High School Senior:  Looking for a job?  Child care for two
children who need after school pick up from school.  Also driving to
after school lessons, helping with homework, preparing dinner,
laundry.  M-F.  hours vary but job begins after 2:45 pm each day.
Must have your own car, Valid drivers license, and a clean record.
$12/hour, plus $20/week gas.  Call Mindy: 547-0125.

6. eQuality Scholarship - Graduating senior living in northern or
central California who is planning to attend any two or four year
college, including trade schools who has been involved in volunteer
activities promoting and understanding of and equality for the LGBT
community.  Essay and recommendation required.  Deadline: February 28.
At least 10 scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded. Application
available in D221 and at http://www.allaction.org/scholarship

7. Applying to Sonoma State?  If you have a GPA of 3.0 or above and
are applying for fall 2007, check out the many scholarships, ranging
from $250 to $3,000 per year, available at
http://www.sonoma.edu/Scholarship/HTML/Application.shtml Copies of the
application are also available in D221.  Deadline: January 15.


Events/ Performance

1. The Jacket is looking for 3 new columnists for the 2nd semester.
If you're interested, please email [ mailto:news at jacket.org
]news at jacket.org to request an application or stop by G105.  Completed
applications are due by January 12.  If you have any questions send an

2. The cold winter days are fast approaching.  If you have extra warm
clothes lying around, like coats, jackets, sweaters, and hats, please
consider donating them to the jacket drive.  All donations should be
dropped off in G105 by Tuesday, December 19.  If you have any
questions, send an email to news at jacket.org.


SALES

1. BART Tickets for December are here.  Pick them up at lunchtime in
room D224.

2. If your club wants a page in the yearbook, come to H102 during 7th
period to claim your page.  Quarter, half, and full pages are being
sold.
Please come as soon as possible.

3. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.
