Administration

*1. PTs and SPs BTSA meeting #2.  Today, Wednesday, November 29, 2006
from 3:45-5:45pm. in G210.  See you there!

*2. There are going to be Student Court trials in the Old City Hall
across the street at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr Way on Wednesday the
29th and Thursday the 30th.  Come on over to observe the Student
Court in action or sign up to be on the jury so that you can
participate in the process! 
We'll have a snack table ready at 5:00, and the cases start to be
heard at 5:30 pm.  Potential jurors should arrive early for sign up!
See you there!

*3. Services for Yonas Mehari will be held, Saturday, December 2nd,
2pm at the Greek Orthodox Church, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, in Oakland.

4. Young people ages 15-24 make up half of all new HIV infections
worldwide.  The Berkeley High School Health Center will be hosting a
school-wide event on Friday, December 1st for World AIDS Day.  Stop
by the Donahue Gym from 8:30 am - 12:15 pm.  There will be displays,
hands-on learning activities, and panels from the AIDS Memorial
Quilt.  "Stop AIDS - Keep the Promise"

*5. JOBS: The Museum of Children's Art is looking for High School age
teens to assist in our Winter Art Camp.  Teens must be interested in
working with younger children in art.  They must be flexible, good
humored, and willing to help with clean up, prep jobs and
supervising/assisting with children ages 5-12.  Camp operates from
8am - 6pm, Tuesday - Friday, December 26-29 and January 2-5.  For

6. JOBS: Looking for experienced student with good computer skills,
filing and organization 2-6 hours a week with flexible hours. $8-$10

Clubs

1. Earphone English at lunch on Wednesday in C116 as usual.

*2. Do you sing in the shower?  Do you spontaneously burst into song?
Sing to your hearts content at the Chorus Club, today at lunch in the
Chorus room A5. Everybody welcome.

*3. Do you have plastic on your furniture?  Have you played 3
instruments since kindergarten?  Do your family reunions consist of
75 pairs of chopsticks?  If you answered yes to any of these
questions or even if you didn't, come to the Hapa Club!  A community
for multiracial students of Asian descent.  Wednesdays at lunch in
C204.  Free White Rabbit candies for all who attend.

*4. All Best Buddies, there is a meeting today at lunch in the
cafeteria. See you there!

5. Have you ever wanted to experience a motion picture stunt?  You
can at the Cinematography Club.  We will make movies!  Act! Direct!
Film! Create dazzling special effects!  Write captivating movies
scripts!  Punch extras in the Face!  We want you!  Wednesdays at
lunch in G208.  Be there and/or punched in the face.

6. Come to Condom Club and learn the facts about HIV, STD's, and how
to be safe.  Wednesday, November 29th during lunch in room H114.  You
must attend the entire time to get a condom club sticker on your
student ID. Don't forget to bring your lunch and ID. Snacks will be
served.


Senior / Junior Section

*1. High School Senior:  Looking for a job?  Child care for two
children who need after school pick up from school.  Also driving to
after school lessons, helping with homework, preparing dinner,
laundry.  M-F.  hours vary but job begins after 2:45 pm each day.
Must have your own car, Valid drivers license, and a clean record.
$12/hour, plus $20/week gas.  Call Mindy: 547-0125.

*2. eQuality Scholarship - Graduating senior living in northern or
central California who is planning to attend any two or four year
college, including trade schools who has been involved in volunteer
activities promoting and understanding of and equality for the LGBT
community.  Essay and recommendation required.  Deadline: February
28.  At least 10 scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded.

*3. UC Merced has extended the application deadline to the end of
January and is holding an On-the-Spot Admissions Day on Saturday,
Decmber 9.  To participate, simply call (866) 270-7301 and bring a
copy of your transcript (unofficial is okay) and your test scores.
Check http://admissions.ucmerced.edu for more information.  Next year
they will be introducing a new major in economics.
  They are also considering other majors, including history,
literature, and political science.  A number of new minors are under
review, including education, anthropology, and sociology.  Apply for
these majors by indicating "undeclared" on your application and
selecting your major of choice when you register for classes.  UC
Merced provides a solid foundation for graduate education or for
admission to a professional school in health sciences (pre-med), law,
business, or teaching.

*4. Applying to Sonoma State?  If you have a GPA of 3.0 or above and
are applying for fall 2007, check out the many scholarships, ranging
from $250 to $3,000 per year, available at

the application are also available in D221.  Deadline: January 15.

*5. Tell your parents - Financial Aid workshop for Senior Parents:
Thursday, December 7, 6:30 pm in the BHS Library.  A representative
from the UC Berkeley financial aid office will walk us through the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) line by line and
answer all of your questions.  I will also discuss the CSS Profile
which is required by some private schools.  Sessions will be held in
both English and Spanish.


Events/Performances

1. The Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble Fall Concert is December 1
at 7:30 PM.  Come hear what our award winning ensemble and combos
have going on this year.  There will be delicious food for sale
before the concert and at intermission so bring your appetites.  This
is all happening at the Florence Schwimley Little Theater, on the
Berkeley High School campus. Tickets are available only at the door,
Box Office opens at 7:00. $10 general admission, $3 non-BHS students
and FREE for Berkeley High School students, faculty and staff.  For

2. The Berkeley Rep Teen Council is now accepting submissions for
their fifth annual Target @Teen One Acts Festival.  For the Festival,
two original one act plays will be written, produced, directed and
performed by Bay Area Teens.  The final due date is January 1, 2007.
Also, for those wishing to get comments on apiece they are working on
or for those wanting to start something new, the Berkeley Rep Teen
Council will be holding a free playwriting workshop on Wednesday,
November 29 at 4:30 pm on Addison at the Berkeley Rep School of
Theatre.  All teen writers are welcome and encouraged to come,
whether or not they have experience in playwriting.

3. While you are out shopping this week, pick up some extra canned
goods and bring them to your second period class.  The canned food
drive is still going on. Every day counts!  The class with the most
cans will get a pizza party so bring in your cans.  The cans will be
used in BHS Annual Holiday Meal on December 9th.


SALES

*1. Early bird ticket sales for the Winterball are next week!
December 5-7 after school at the Allston St. Box Office you can buy
your Winter Ball tickets for just $45.  The price goes up every week!
After that, it goes up $5 each week.
